Have just been out for the first time on my 2009 meta 6.3. Got it 2nd hand on ebay. Very pleased with it but I'v just been looking through the net & noticed that there is a few reports of the welds in the frame cracking  . I was just wondering if anyone has experienced this & how they got on with getting it sorted.

Mine seems to be in very good condition & everything works perfectly but its a bit of a worry buying 2nd hand & then in say in 6 months time it cracks, would i still be covered by warranty??

In short, no.
Warranty only applies to the original owner, and they only had a 2 year warranty anyway, so it's probably run out by now.

Lots of people on here have had frame failures with 2009 Meta 5's and 6's.

As you may have read, the main place where the frame may crack is on the top tube / seat tube weld.  Mine started as a barely visible hairline crack and I rode it for a year like that as progression was minor.  The welds that hold the shock mounting to the downtube can also develop minor looking cracks..  If you keep an eye on it you should spot it well before it fails.

Plenty were sorted out under warranty.  In theory the warranty does not extend beyond 2 years or the original owner.  If your's develops a crack within 2 years of new maybe the seller will warranty it for you (if they are the original owner)?  If not the best you could hope for would be a crash replacement deal from Commencal - approx half price replacement frame but comes with full warranty.  Not saying you would definitely get that deal though.  If it goes you may just lose out.

It's not all doom & gloom though.  Plenty of 2009 frames did not / have not cracked at all.  You may be OK.  Just something to keep an eye on.

Thrashed the sh*t out of my '09 Meta for 2 1/2 yrs now and not a sign of a crack anywhere dude. I was really worried at the time when everyone on here appeared to be having frame failures with 08/09 models but mines never skipped a beat.
