South Wales..

I am thinking of spending upto a week around the south Wales area and riding the likes of Afan etc.
What I would like to ask is if anyone has any recommendations on where to ride and stay. I will be possibly be camping or staying in some form of B&B. Both have to be bike friendly, fairly close to the area for riding but accommodating enough to have a day off and visit a beach or something (weather permitting).
So, has anyone done something similar and they can recommend some good / well priced places to stay..?
Much appreciated..!

I stayed in
Bryn Teg House
B&B in Cymmer when I was there a while back. Located roughly in the middle of Glyncorrwg, and Afan, and very accomodating towards bikers.
A couple of us stayed there for 3 nights. First day it rained so we headed into Cardiff for the day (we'd already spent 4 days in north wales, so a rest day was welcomed!), and I rode Glyncorrwg that night, we rode all of Afan the next day, drove to Brechfa the next day (about 1h40min drive from what I remember), and then headed homeward the following day stopping of at Cannock Chase for a quick loop of FTD.

Glynorrig there is a camp site and also a really good b&b at the village which is 1 mile up the road.
If you do Afan there are 4 trails to do all within easy reach; The Wall, Penhydd, Skyline and Whites - my personal favourite is defo Whites.
Glyncorrig
Also camping at Cwmcarn if your into DH - there is a loop there but its not brilliant.

Hi Marco,
I have stayed here:
http://www.blueseasbnb.co.uk/index.php?id=1
. About 20 mins. drive to Afan but right on the beach with great views. Not really setup for bikers, but they do have a secure place for 2 or 3 bikes and were really nice hosts.
Friends have stayed here:
http://thequeensguesthouse.co.uk/index.htm
. They said it was OK but not great.
A few of us are also staying in Bryn Teg House B&B during the May bank holiday weekend, I can't comment on what it's like but the location is excellent for Glyncorrwg and Afan.
We are going to ride The Wall, White Levels and possibly Skyline. I have done The Wall and Whites and they are both really good trails, the final decent of The Wall is awesome and the new 'energy' section on Whites is a great piece of flowing single track. I would be interested to hear peoples comments on Skyline, some seem to love it while others say it's just a long slog!

8 of stayed here

It was very close to all the trails and the people who own it were very accommodating, even after we broke one of the beds

Ah... You're coming to my home eh???!!!
I know the area pretty well as I've lived in Swansea 15 years now. If I were you I'd get a nice B&B in Mumble, West Swansea. Its about 30 minutes from Afan by car, about 40 minutes to Glyncorrig BUT you also the option of Brechfa. Mumbles also has some great beaches and is ideal for a break from biking. Its also pretty bloody good for apres biking with lots of pubs and a night club that has skirts in it. I dont think I'd camp or stay in a B&B with the option of Mumbles available especially if you're staying for a week. If I had a week in Mumbles in a B&B, I reckon I'd do something like this.....
1. there are 2 rides at Afan. The Wall (1.25-1.75hrs) and Penhyyd (1-1.5hrs), both are epic ( I do one of them every thurs evening)
2. couple of options at Glyncorrig. Whites is a MUST (2hrs) and there is also Skyline, but this might bust your balls and is a bit boring (4hr), There's also a cut down version of Skyline called July and its very good
3. Brechfa is a definate must whatever you do (another good option of staying in Mumbles!!)
You can also do a MB trip around the Gower, off road. Takes about 3-4 hrs and is bloody good. By-passes a fair few pubs on the way and some awesome beaches.
Geek bit now..... The Gower was the first place in the UK to be designated a place of natural outstanding beauty. Easy to see why if you go there!!!
If you want me to email some good b&bs in Mumbles, let me know

List below via Yell.com...
The Carlton looks pretty decent from outside, but I've never been in. It does have a nice big bar though on Mumbles front!! £75 a night for a twin.
I don't rekon you can go wrong with any of these though !
If you want a nice afternoon off biking, head fo a village called reynoldston in the middle of the Gower and go to the King Arthur pub. I rekon its the best pub in miles ! Then go for a trip to Rhossili for awesome views (voted top 10 view in the world from the local pub at Rhossili, but the t0sser told us off for having bikes in his garden>.)
