Hi everyone i have been away from biking for a few years and have been persuaded to get of my arse back out riding ready for this years Morzine trip, My last  bike was a 2007 Orange patriot fr which rode fantastic and did every thing i wanted it to,
So after reading lots of good reviews i have decided to go for a:
Commencal supreme 6.2 frame  (well that what it was advertised as) in a bit of a tired state, i have stripped the frame ready for soda blasting in a few days and then i can start the rebuid. My thoughts are something i can pedal around the peak district trails and a bit of dh thrown in, looking at double chainring, 160mm Rock shox Domain forks, and Air shock anyone any feedback on Manitou evolver 4 air shock?

so first question can anyone identify the year of the frame and what exactly it is (mini dh or supreme 6.2 what is the differnce ),?

If it helps it has the adjustable headset pinch bolts and the original colour seems to be a deep red/burgundy?

After much searching am i right in saying the shock should be 200x50 as i have also read 200x57 fits?

Also what the score with the headset internal measurement is 1.5" i am assuming it should run a 1 1/8 semi intergrated or intergrated headset? and that i have to  buy a sleeve to for inside the headset if i want to make it adjustable?

sorry about all the questions
Dave

Great bike, and perfect for what you want it for. Built with sensib;e kit it'll weigh in about 36lbs and be able to cope with most DH tracks, yet with a double ring (and proper MTber legs) be pedal'd anywhere.

The Supreme6, Mini DH and Supreme are all the same, just different names.

Your frame is hard to date as I can't tell the tube configuration for the top tube. Send a close up pic of just the top tube and I'll be able to tell.

The shock is a 200x50, or 57 if you want. If your frame is a 2006 it might not run a piggy back, some did that year some didn't. If the top tube has a crease in it, on the underside near where the shock mounts, it can, if not it can't.

What is the colour? Is the red the base colour or the white? If red, I think it's a 2005 frame, and I'm pretty sure won't take a piggy back. If white it's a 2006 and might. If the red is actually orange, it's a 2007. It's hard to tell from the pics, but my instinct is it was originally red, and so I'm sure a 2005. My memory is adding now on colours that far back, but I'm sure the 6.2 from 05 was red. The 6.1 in 05 was silver, I had one.

The headset is 1 1/8" standard external bearing jobbie, and yes you will need an insert. I've got some, cost a tenner plus shipping.

Thanks for the info Steve, it is definatley a deep red colour and pretty certain no indentation in the to tube so looks like it is 05 frame, will double check tomorrow,
i need to rethink shock now, is it not possible for piggy back shock to go other way round or will the reservoir hit the frame, or just not work?
I will take a headset insert from you do you have the different degree sizes, i was thinking just putting the standard 0 degree one in and see how i get on may change it for a -/+1 for morzine what would you suggest?

Which to get is entirely down to personal choice, here is the listing to buy either. http://www.realcycles.com/products.php?plid=m11b58s211p3075

as above, great frame for the alps....

i have  a 2009 supreme 6... coming from a DH background I would suggest the -1 head angle adjustment &  rockshox totem 2009+. with 745mm bars it's as good as an old demo 8. seriously, I'm faster on the commie. this includes UK uplifts.... yet with legs and a hydraulic seat post the classic trails of the port de soliel will be fine.

I'm doing the passportes on mine this year, and expect to do well.

i have been roped into the passportes for this year and i don't expect to do well at all, Think i need to get out an do some training.
Thanks to Steve i have had some bits turn up so will get started rebuilding bike,
Frame has been soda blasted now and i decided to polish the rear end and leave the rest raw, fitted new bearings, got older marzocchi 66 light forks to service and fit and sort out a rear shock

You're making the Passportes sound like a race, which it isn't.
Think of it as a long day out on the bike with mates, with minimal uphill pedalling.

Off course, if you want to do the full loop, you'll need to put some effort in and have minimal stops, but I'd recommend make use of some of the shortcuts, chill out, enjoy the food/drink stations, and have a good day.

It's a brilliant day out in the mountains. It's the only thing I can think of that would make me go back to the Soleil area.

I'm still amazed they had wine in some of the feed stations.

You'll need to get the frame lacquered.

You'll need to get the frame lacquered.
No leaving as raw alloy, it will oxidize on the surface and dull down a bit but if want to clean it up just rub over with scotch pad it will be fine.
