Stoked as hell to have my 07 Meta 552 frame at last. Just went to check some things after Iain responded to some techy questions I had posed only to find that the frame is cracked on the lower half of the top tube about an inch behind the head tube (from gusset to gusset).

Having only picked the frame up at 8pm this evening, I have sent the seller a message asking for his comments on this but my question here is...Is this a normal place for these frames to crack?

The rest of the frame looks OK but I guess i'll know more tomorrow when I can look at it in daylight.

Guess it's time for a scotch and some more web surfing to find another one.

The sad thing is that I missed an 08 Meta 5 on eBay that went for just £25 more than I paid for this one as the auction ended while I went to collect it.

It was mainly 09 Metas that had a problem. Sounds like a front end crash which has transferred the force through the gusset.

I don't remember them having loads of problems in 07.

No, in 09 it was the top tube/seat tube interface that went. In 06/07/08 it was exactly where this guys has gone: Under side of top tube about an inch behind the head tube.

Sadly the frame is a right off. The crack will only get bigger and eventually the front end will fall off.

I can tell you all that the seller has been fantastic in his responce and the way he has handled this so my thanks and great respect go to him. (He is a member here BTW although I bought the frame via another forum).

After a long chat with him tonight, his plan is to split the frame and sell whatever is useable which is actually a lot. If you see some 07 parts comming up for sale from the Surrey area...I can personally vouch for the seller as a gold star guy.
