Greetings all, Paul here - new to the forum.
I'm in need of some rapid advice. My HT was nicked in Dec (Scott Aspect 10, '08 model), but thankfully the insurance has kicked in and I'm blessed with a healthy replacement budget. The cash available would provide the possibility to switch to an entry level FS: budget is around £1k from the general market, or £1200 if I go through the insurance co's preferred supplier.
I mainly do XC trail centres and local woods etc. but tend to hammer quite hard (frankly, my technique isn't what it should be) and I ain't small neither - 6:1 and about 95kg.
I've always fancied a FS and the insurance co has offered me a Commencal Super4 Pro 2010 model, which is really well specced. I've read a well reasoned thread here about the dodgy bikeradar review
http://www.commencalownersclub.com/index.php?topic=7283.0, and I agree that it would seems to be more do to with the setup of that particular bike, but I've also learned there were widespread problems with the 2009 frames. Keen to hear plaudits or otherwise from 2010 Super4 Pro owners, and thoughts on whether the bike would suit my riding style/size/ability etc.
Was also looking at a Kona Tanuki Deluxe 2011, for similar money.
Pointers/pros/cons/"don't be an idiot, stick with an HT" comments all gratefully received!
