Greetings all, Paul here - new to the forum.

I'm in need of some rapid advice. My HT was nicked in Dec (Scott Aspect 10, '08 model), but thankfully the insurance has kicked in and I'm blessed with a healthy replacement budget. The cash available would provide the possibility to switch to an entry level FS: budget is around £1k from the general market, or £1200 if I go through the insurance co's preferred supplier.

I mainly do XC trail centres and local woods etc. but tend to hammer quite hard (frankly, my technique isn't what it should be) and I ain't small neither - 6:1 and about 95kg.

I've always fancied a FS and the insurance co has offered me a Commencal Super4 Pro 2010 model, which is really well specced. I've read a well reasoned thread here about the dodgy bikeradar review http://www.commencalownersclub.com/index.php?topic=7283.0, and I agree that it would seems to be more do to with the setup of that particular bike, but I've also learned there were widespread problems with the 2009 frames. Keen to hear plaudits or otherwise from 2010 Super4 Pro owners, and thoughts on whether the bike would suit my riding style/size/ability etc.

Was also looking at a Kona Tanuki Deluxe 2011, for similar money.

Pointers/pros/cons/"don't be an idiot, stick with an HT" comments all gratefully received!  Smiley

think the thread you linked to said pretty much it all to be honest
Its a lot of bike for £1k, they where originally £1,800 and the 2012 equivalent is around £2.5k I think
since that thread I think there has been a couple that have cracked on the rear swingarm but no where near the volume of 2009 failures
What size are they offering, I can't imagine there is many still left in stock, (Real, CRC and Merlin the three biggest stockholders are all but out I think) at 6'1" you are needing a large, possibly even an XL
Depending on what you define as 'hammering quite hard' you may be better with a Meta 5?

Cant comment on the Kona, and to be honest this is a Commencal Owners forum, you will get opinions from people that actually own the bikes longterm rather than a week long mag test, but how many people do you know would admit to spending £2k plus on something they then don't like so we may be a bit biased in some ways

Either way though they are good capable fun bikes and the S4 is probably a decent first full suss move from a hardtail

(ps you might get more responses if you change your thread title to something less vague - "2010 Super 4 opinions" maybe?
I can do that for you if you don't know how to use all the forum features yet

Thanks for your thoughts Iain, it does seem like a great deal - hence my suspicion. I'd go for a large frame, I think. Unless anyone here chimes in with anything radical, I'll probably go for it tomorrow. Forum topic changed - more good thinking. Tks.

no catch on the price - places are just selling off surplus stock due to a change in distributor (from Madison to Chain Reaction)
