Just put on a minion super tacky 2.35 on the front. Have run a minion 60a 2.35 and XR4 during the summer. Prefer the minions to high rollers as I tend to find the latter break away before gripping up again. Super tacky seemed fine on the usual Dartmoor trails aka wet granite. Time will tell if they are the right tyre.

Put a 2.1 high roller (60a) on the rear but may swap this out again for the minion 60a. Not
least because I had my first pinch flat for a dogs age, having run 2.35 all year and moved over to tubeless until I couldn't get the super tacky or 2.1 HR mounted.

How did you find the xr4? I've just been reading good things about them and the FR4 Team..

For anything other than wet muddy riding I love Rubber Queens.
However, at a gloopy slimey damp Aston HIll they were useless last week. I had two tyres made of mud with no grips showing through.

I've just got a pair of folding Ardent 2.25's.. 640g each.

I'll see how I get on with those, if not.. I still have some Minions..

Have to say here that I feel Ardent's are not the best rolling tyres at all. Don't know is it just on me but just can't get good speed/control with them.

Jimbo

I have actually been using the FR4 not XR4. I'm more than happy with the it. Got it for a week in the sierra nevada (spain) as it is 2ply. Stood up to all that I dished out. Running it tubeless it did not miss a beat.

It feels pretty soft and grippy but it does not grip quite so well as the minion super tacky on wet rock. To be honest I was expecting to rip the knobs of it because it was so soft. However, after the week in spain it looked almost new. I then used for a while on my usual rides but took it off for the winter to save a little weight and to get something a bit grippier.

NB the bontrager money back guarantee (not tested) sounds good.

so long as they are both tubeless so we dont have to stop every 5 minutes for you to discover that superstar patches are stickier than a tube of pritt stick and your pump doesnt pump I dont care what bike your on! Wink

Cheap and cheerful WTB Dissent DH 2.5 - worth a go and theyre folding so a good spare

Not bad for DH mud or rock - best in dry

Mate has highrollers on his Norco, and he said the snow was the only time he's felt any grip for DH so far ,, but we've mainly been using wet forest dh tracks
