Hi All,

Used this forum over the last few years for info but haven't really posted much, anyway....

Just finished the gradual upgrade/build of my meta 5.5 and put it on the scales..............32.5lbs.

Is this weight typical or have I built an total porker?

I should point out that its a 2008 medium frame and I've owned it from almost new but slowly over the years upgraded it to the spec I want.  As this is the first time it has been weighed I'm just curious to know how it compares with other meta builds.

Love the bike and dont care if it is a porker......everyone knows fatty's ride better  Wink

I'll get pics/spec up shortly.

My 2009 meta weighed around 33+ lbs when I first got it.  Heavy wheelset, Coil Pikes and 2 x 203 Hayes Mag brakes didn't help Smiley

It may interest you to know that...
2009 Meta 55 in Medium without shock (but helitaped up) = 3330g
2011 Meta 55 in Small without shock (no helitape) = 3175g.

Jimbo insists on lead tyres, that's why his is heavy. And it's extra large.

Nice that, Paul.

You're welcome...
It's not just that though.  Now people have an idea what they weigh instead of relying on Manu's figures.

N.B. Taping has increased the weight by 50 - 70 gm.

i have got them in dude ,I need them so Steve p can keep up ha ha . Right lets get serious here,Most stock nikes are good enough for the average Joe which most of us are, wheels will help you go faster, but 50g of tape on a 32lb would not be noticed by the rider,ok 1000 ,50g all add up. But to me it what is the difference if you put 5lb on your bike in weight or carry it in your bag,you still have to push the combined weight up a hill.If you want to go faster its the wheels you need to change.

My 2008 medium VIP comes in about 30.5 lbs ready to roll. At the time of building Commie were claiming 27.2 for the high end 5, quite how I don't know as I'd have all on shaving 3 lbs off mine.
