Off for a spin round Kirroughtree next Friday and prob Innerleithen on the Saturday, but am wondering if anyone's been round the red at Inners and has any info as to what the descents are like.

ReasonI ask is that my mate has had a couple of incidents which has really knocked his confidence and albeit he should be alright round Kirroughs with a few chickens or slow rolls on some bits, I dont want to take him somewhere he wont enjoy.

on a seperate note I should be in my element and am looking forward to hammering down it.... heard there's 3 drops at the top of Cadden.... how big are they, just send it or stop n look first?

Are the DH runs good and are they pretty doable on a Meta5 or is it more suited to a slacker headset angled beastie?

Is it like the red at Stainburn / Red at Nevis fort bill or a lot gnarlier... are there many drops jumps or steep rollers etc?
Would he be better at Glentress and would I still enjoy it?
Cheers

Like most places you can roll much of it. The top is quite fast and loose but if your mate is lacking in confidence just take it easy and he will be fine. There are some black runs which are real technical & rocky but you can take alternative red routes round.

Cadden bank drops are maybe 2/3ft, 3ft and the last one is 4/5 ft. The last one can be a bit daunting if your not used to these type of drops, but chicken runs round all of it. If you on a 5 / 6 inch bike you should be OK, just pop the front a little.

The climbs a bitch

I haven't been for a while (preferring GT red) so some of what I have written may have changed - or just be plain wrong

I hate the up, never been a fan of rock, rocks and more rocks on the up. BUT the down is awesome and well worth the effort.

Excellent cheers chaps... I think he'll be alright and Kirroughs should be a nice warm up for him and I really enjoyed it last year. I just hope the weather is a bit like this, but 10 degrees cooler and I'd be over the moon; however it'll prob piss it down and I'll still love it!

Got a nice play round Gisburn on Sat morning planned too.... love the wooden section although it'll sure be different than two weeks ago when it was torrential all the way round... not sure which I prefer as the roots really made you work which was fun!

As for the drop, yeah might just have a look first, as I'll be driving home at the end of it all  Roll Eyes

Inners red is a great place for your mate to get his confidence back, even without doing the drops
Climb is a pig but well worth it
I really want to get back to inners red soon I reckon I could nail it now compared to last time

The red at Innerleithen isn't that bad.
The climb can be a challenge, especially once you get clear of the trees, but you've just got to keep going, then chill out for a while at the top to recover.
The descent is mostly fine, just take the red option in Plora Craig to avoid the techy rock sections, and the chicken runs are to the left of all the drops on Caddon Bank/Make or Break lower.

As for the DH tracks. There's nothing there I haven't ridden on my hardtail.
They do get a bit steep in places, there are some decent sized gaps/drops, and is a bit rough, but nothing that really warrants a full on downhill bike if you just want to have some fun.

The drop at Caddon Bank is doable, and it looks worse than what it is...  what time are you planning on hitting Kirrie next week... could possibly meet you guys there... providing the pace is nice and slow.... I am more a Trail Wildebeest than a Whippet....LOL
