it's a vip frame, but then built up reasonably chunky... i think the bulk of the weight is in the downhill tyres to be fair

30.06lb with bolt thru 140mm forks, 5.1 wheels, 200mm rotors and a spec list that is sensibly light but still strong and durable.

Yes, I know, that's a bit of an anal weight. I try to keep my Meta 5 around the 30lb mark for general use.

My Supreme weights 37lb.

Hi Steve,

so yours is 4lb's lighter, I know I have the gravity dropper which probably adds 350 grms but what would you say is the main area you have saved weight or is it just a little here and there?

It's no where really.

Off the top of my head spec is...

08 VIP frame XL
DT Swiss rear shock
Manitou Minutes forks
XTR hubs (front 20mm BT)
DT Swiss 5.1 rims
Revolution spokes
Standard tubes
Intense cc225 tyres
Cane Creek headset
Titec carbon stem, bars and post. Which whilst being carbon is about the same weight as top end alu stuff
XT shifters
07 XT brakes to 203mm XTR centre lock rotors
XTR cables
Odi grips
Cyraguard front cruddie
Garmin 205 GPS (included in weight)
SDG Ti saddle
XT chainset: 22/32/Race Face BG
XT chain
XT cassette
Spare mech hanger attached to rear dropout
DX pedals
07 "old" XT rear mech and front mech

Think that covers everything.

Nothing on that list I would say is ultra lightweight, I guess it's just all sensibly weights with a nod to strength. If ever I had a decision to make between lightweight and weak and a bit heavier and strong, I went heavier and strong.

Large Meta XT 12.9kgs with Time Atac XS pedals, don't have the foggiest what that is in pounds  Huh?

By the by my scales are digital but vary over 10% from one day to the next so couldn't this 4lb discrepancy be the different weighing scales calibration? Just a thought Smiley

The 55 XT long term test bike in MBR came in at 30.82 apparently, with pedals. 0.82lbs is almost exactly the weight of a set of bog standard M520 shimano pedals, still about 30lbs there though, quite a bit over the claimed. They do then get the 5.5.1 weighed in at 28.18lbs (without pedals) in the same issue though. Wonder where the 2 pounds is shaved, cassette, DT 370 hub, bit with the Deus XC finishing kit perhaps?

My '07 Meta VIP 5.5  is 30.25 lbs  (13.7 kg), with quite a burly build (Zoke Z1 SL fork, ROCO 3PL rear shock, Gravity Dropper, XT M776 wheels, ...). I'll post some pics and a review as soon as I'll have some time.
