I'm in week 7 of not touching a bike due to my first ever bone breakage and it was due to off road cycling. Sucks. Got another week to go. Won't be touching the mtb till 2012..

What happened to you Ant? I recall a slightly cryptic post that sounded very serious but don't recall you saying what happened.
Hope your healing good, and get back on a bike soon, I'm gonna try the cx bike tomorrow as I can use brakes and gears on that with my other fingers

Was at Harthill and overshot the biggest jump there. Landed on my head  from about 15' up, giving myself 1x destroyed pride, 1x destroyed full face helmet, 1x concussion, 1x fractured hip socket, 3x fractured spinal vertabrae, 2x broken ribs, 1x 1" gash from my eye to my temple, and 2x collarbones that felt like they were on fire for 2 weeks. Spent 12 days in hospital not allowed to move, not able to wash myself, take a piss myself, feed myself etc. It was fucking humiliating.

Bike was fine, apart from a slightly bent £350 front wheel..

I'm walking again now, but i've got another week of having metalwork that supports my spine. Sucks a little as i had a week in Les Arcs with Trailaddiction next week.. Had to cancel. Got physio and a few more scans just after the b'hol. BTW, the NHS do a fantastic job, the nurses always had time to help me out and never left me to have to fend for myself.

BTW, the jump i came off is the second one at the beginning of this vid.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LOaRV58pxF4  It's about 9/10' high, and i like to boost them. Was getting an easy 6' of air off the first one, and more off the second.

Shit not good, puts my 'injury' very much in perspective. sounds like you are on road to recovery though, I would cross my fingers for you but, ehm, I cant at the mo!

I was in bits with 1 broken collar bone, i couldnt imagine both. They had to put much metal work in??

Is it me or is there a lot of pretty bad injuries going round at the minute?? i know of 2 broken necks this year, a spine and endless collar bones. A mate broke his wrist, elbow and collar bone a few weeks back. whats going on? are they just more documented or everyone taking more risks?

Nah, neck brace would have made it worse, it would have transferred the force onto somewhere else.

BTW, i didn't break either collarbone, they just felt really painful for a few weeks.

I was lucky. I went in for surgery for metalwork to hold together my pelvis and hip, but i came round after going into theatre without any skin being sliced. They did all sorts of xrays and manipulation to me in theatre and then decided that i didn't need surgery. Never before had i cried in happyness. That was my first time. It meant the difference between 6 weeks in hospital to 2 weeks in hospital. If i had the surgery i wouldn't have been allowed out of bed for 4 weeks, and i would have had to sell all of my bikes.

I agree with the bad injuries atm. Mate burst a kidney on the Mega, i broke myself quite well, and a few other people i know have destroyed themselves this summer.

jumping fail here too. 2 broken wrists, 3 surgeries, 22days in hospital. this summer sucks.

I've nearly chopped the end of my thumb clean off.. Got it caught in the brake disc whilst fettling..
