i currently run a manitou evolver isx 6 on my mini, but i was wondering whether or not a swap to a cane creek double barrel shock with a titanium spring would make the bike even more dh worthy. This fall and winter i've been wondering whether or not a dedicated dh rig was called for as i wanna do a little bit of racing, but decided it wasn't necessary as the mini is prob more than enough bike for 90%+ of the riding it's gonna see as well as better for my current level of riding. But, would the difference in performance between the two shocks be minimal, or worth the extra weight and money? In terms of the evolver my other bike is getting one of those suckers anyway in time, so it's not a big deal (identical shock size  Wink

also, there's the question of whether or not such an efficient system as the contact system needs so good a shock, if it's overkill. dunno. Apparently the traction with the ccdb is amazing , but the traction is already fantastic  so... i dunno

EDIT: nm, the cost of a ccdb with a titanium spring is excactly twice the amount i have to pay for a new evolver isx 6, thus it's kinda inconceivable that it is worth the extra cash. The evolver and the mini works like bread and butter so it's kinda hard to make the argument that the ccdb is gonna be twice as good. Or is it?

EDIT #3: how much of a difference does having say a fox 40rc2 or a 888 sl ata wc built down to 180 mm for dh riding compared to using a talas rc2? Does the 2cm extra ac height and possibly slacker angle make for a huge difference? Again, we're just talking about racing here, not in terms of everyday use. I guess a 66 ata could work as well. (and no boxxer or totem - me no lik-e)

The cane creek double barrel is good, but only if you're racing.

You may as well jsut shove on a DHX 5 coil, just as good, maybe better, but heavier.
I do not know what the evolver is, or what it is like.

Having a full on DH fork on the bike limits it's capabilities, the forks are heavier, and more travel, but with the mini, you're able to change the headtube angle to alter for the longer fork. As you said that it's for racing use, then a duel crown will be sorted, as the mini asks for something longer than the 160mm it's warrantied up to. The duels are stiffer than the singles, and therefore better for DH.

thanks for the reply.

yeah, the possible plan was to have two forks, a talas and 888 sl ata wc probably (as i can get it cheaper than the 40) and then just replace the forks back and forth. So that means the 888 if i'm going to do a race. For anything but racing the talas would be the prefered choice. I'm def not gonna run a double crown or 66 fork on my bike permanently. Too heavy and not necessary at all imo, and a damn hassle for am/enduro riding.

Dunno what i would need in terms of spacers and whatnot to make the fork go right on my current setup, or if i need to modify it (?). I was just thinking that if i put a chain guide and a longer travel fork on it it would be race ready, at least as a start. If i need more travel i can just get a dh rig. I'm not sure if the extra inch and stiffness up front is worth the investment though (?).
