Had noticed a 'creaking' sound last couple of rides and after cleaning last night noticed that the chainstay is cracked near the main pivot, behind the chainring 

Let the warranty claim fiasco begin

unlucky dude , lets hope they sort this problem out with there bikes as its getting a bit of a joke , or do all Bike Brands have a lot of frame cracks does anybody know.

I think all brands are have issues.. In the club I used to ride with, we had about 6 broken treks of various ages. I think one of the lads broke his remedy a few times.
Although snapped commies are certainly a problem, the fact that we're a very popular single make forum means we're the first place people post when the break one which I think makes it look like a larger percentage.

Would I buy another pre-2010 commie though? Nope.  Would happily get another post 09 one though.

As jmj says really. Was gonna say trek. Lapierre are another one with cracking issues.

I wouldnt buy a pre 2010 commie frame either. It's the hassle if it does crack. Never mind though. I'm really happy with the 2010 frame.

my 2nd hand 2008 meat 6 went but i managed to get it welded as warranty wasnt going to apply.

sorry but from all the stories ive heard i wouldnt touch another with a barge pole

unlucky mate i am in the same boat at the moment!!!my my 10 month old meta 6 cracked a couple of weeks ago going through the whole warranty process at the moment dont know how long it is going to take.

i have been riding some 30 years now and never had a frame crack on me,i agree not sure i would buy a pre 2010 commie so many seem to crack!!!!just hoping that the 2010 is ok.

that's a bummer hopefully you will get it sorted soon.I expect many other bike companies suffer from failures as a result of cheaply mass produced frames and the company that makes Commencal frames probably makes frames for loads of other companies as well.The only gripe i have with Commencal is the basic EU 2yr warranty this does not inspire confidence,Trek may also have many cracked frames but they also have lifetime warranties on their frames.My 2010 replacement Meta 5 frame is holding up ok  so happy days

Yeh, I'd noticed an annoying creaking sound on the last couple of rides, but hadn't had time to check over or clean the bike
