Just put some 2.35 single ply minions on my giant instead of the 2.5 dual ply high rollers. Can definately feel a massive difference in the acceleration speed!

Then again, that was 400g each end that just got lost!

i did the same on my alpine but they were the supertacky 2.5 dp. cant believe how heavy they were and the drag that was created by them compared to the single ply 2.35. feels a different bike now.

Yep, mine were super tacky's too.

Gone for the super tacky front, and the 60a MAXXPRO rear.

I went to minions also. Hell of a difference. Could do with a 2.5 though on the front as they are quite narrow.

hehe i whipped my 2.5 ST minions off for some Advantage 2.25 rear 2.4 front, they are over 600g less than the 2.5s!

you can notice a loss of traction on the down if your pushing it esp if its muddy / slippy... where i could cope fine on minions i have gone into a few trees haha

but for the rest of the time on trailcentres and general riding it makes life a million times easier,

just have to run about 10 psi more in them to stop pinch flats, but i rode glentress and inners XC and came out without a single puncture, tho my mate on the same tyres got a double pinch (4 holes! ouch) on the front too, and my other mate with a high roller single ply on the front also pinched that and his crappy kenda temp rear thing

I think the moral here is to a bit of trial and error on air pressure and dont mash the wheels into / over sharp rocks/roots if you can avoid them haha

I run single ply minions on my bikes for everything other than full on DH.  Buy the right size normal thickness tubes and they'll be fine too and shed another load of weight over dh tubes.  Have been running that combo on my bikes for about 3 years with only one puncture.  Can sometimes be hard to find 2.3 normal weight tubes but it's worth it for the weight savings.

Im currently running the Minion exo protections, 2.5's and are pretty much the same weight as the single plys but have that added protection in the walls, roll so much easier than the dual ply st minions that were on before, but i put them back on for the likes of inners and fort bill.
