What better pressie to myself, eh? Built it up 2 weeks ago and although I've ridden it every day since, I've not had a proper chance to ride it on the local d/h track yet - cracking little snow bike though - think I'm gonna love this one More pics here.

Cheers Woody! Can't wait for this snow to go to get to know it a bit better. Half tempted to try it singlespeed before replacing my ageing battered rear mech.

Seen your pics somewhere else but not seen many SX's in these pages at all. Supposedly a 'slopestyle' bike? do you use it for general xc / trail and if so how do you find it?

Yes, it'll be used for a bit of everything, x/c, d/h and back and forth from work. My first Commencal - I've been mainly riding Intense frames for the past few years - had a few Tazer frames (FS, VP and FRO) - cracking little bikes but left me wanting a little more skill compensation on the downhills. Had a Slopestyle for a while - amazing bike, though completely impractical as an 'only bike' - I knew the moment I sold it that I'd made a big mistake but having had a couple of weeks on the SX I'm pretty sure that this will ease the pain - it's a lot shorter and chuckable than the Slopestyle and the u turn forks up front mean that I can keep longer travel and slacker angles for the d/h track. I'm only 5'2" so the short toptube is a real bonus for me too. If it's as good in the slop as it has been in the snow then bring it on! Love it!!!!

Pedals pretty well - there is some bob in the lowest gears but I think you get that whatever the suspension system - it's a lot easier on the climbs than the super-plush Uzzi it replaced. I've had a couple of Kona Cowan DS frames too with the pivot around the b/b - ran both singlespeed and had no problems climbing.

Deja vu . . . and Merry Christmas once again To cut a short story even shorter, once again cash flow prompted me to eBay the lovely orange Absolut for a second time . However, when polishing the frame ready for the sale I noticed that the rear didn't seem to sit correctly and inspection revealed missing bearing spacers causing cracks around the chainstay bearing with distortion of the bearing seat. After quick call and email to Merlin Cycles, the damaged frame was collected from me and just two weeks later this little 2011 beauty arrived . . . oh, and this one's going nowhere (cashflow problem? . . . what cashflow problem? ). Top marks to Merlin Cycles and Commencal for a very speedy warranty replacement - I was kept informed by Merlin every step of the way - cheers guys!

He he - Merlin did contact me when it arrived from France asking if I'd prefer an orange one as they had one in stock at their shop but hey, change is good (and it was an excuse to buy some new blue bits)
