hi guys. me and the crew i ride with are looking at heading to les gets/morzine next year and ive got a few questions. firstly what months are we looking at to ensure we catch all the lifts open but dont get screwed by price in the peek seasons. secondly, has anyone been here that can recommend places to stay, packages to look at or even companies that could sort us out with the whole thing in one. got riders retreat site but never used them so any help would be great. lastly any info what so ever on things worth taking or worth bearing in mind would be wicked cheers jase.

Lifts open on 25th June, close beginning of september.
I'm hoping to get there from 25th June to 9th July.

lol there are a lot of threads up about this, but i will answer what i can. Riders Retreat are great, thats who i stayed with and would most lkely stay with again everytime i go back, i couldnt fault them, i stayed in their chalet l'eucherie location and it was lovely, nice cosy sitting room to chill in, a hot tub an sauna for after the days biking (every day after biking me and my mate jumped in them with a crate of beer in a large ice bucket
) , good kitchen and large dining area, good secure bike storage with a full workshop set up with tools,workstand and powerswasher, the rooms were comfy and clean, they were a tad on the small side but really you dont spend any real time in them so that aint a factor is it. The staff were great and helpful, Tom the chalet hand was sound and was more than willng to go riding with the customers and show them local and secret spots, any questions i had prior to going out the answered for me, the location was spot on, literally a 1min ride from the sper morzine lift, a 2min walk to the nearest large supermarket, only a few mins walk to the very centre of town and bike shops the next street over.
And regarding your lifts vs peak times/prices thats the best time to go, during peak. If you eat in some nights and dont drink out a lot you can do it all on a reasonable budget, its the eating out (£15-20) for an ave main course and the beers (5-6 euros a pint) that put a dent in the old wallet. The supermarkets are super cheap fpr both beer and food and on one night during the week (wed i think) a bar along from the riders retreat (think it was called the sherpa bar) did a bbq and you just brought your own meat, they cooked it for free and provided free rolls and salads etc, it was fantastic, they are obviously relying on each person to buy a few beers to recoup that cost but i was quite happy to do that cos i took so much food along it took me around 4hours to eat it and i still went home with enough for the next days lunch
lol oh and to add to the night rach atherton was there too, it was quite a small bbq ,so quite intimate,but i dint loose my cool and go runing up to her for an autograph, i just sat and admired from a distance(much like a stalker i guess
)

bong mate. did riders retreat deal with everything including the flights or did you put a package together yourself. if they did it all great. if not who did you fly with, where to and what sort of prices did you pay just to give a ball park figure. i know flights will be different next time. does it cost much to take your own bikes with you as my mate seems to think it wont cost anything extra with some companies. doesnt sound right to me though.

no i drove over and you have to deal with all that sort of thing yourself, riders retreat are strictly accomodation only(they willl give you as much info/advice as they can offer though, paul the guy who runs it ver there is very clued up as he has lived there for quite some time now and is a sound guy) , and as for lift passes you just sort that yourself too, its easy to do, just walk up to the ticket window at the super morzine lift and tell them what you are after and they will sort if for you nicely,easy peasy.
I did look at flights for the summer just passed and im sure it was working out at around £200 return with my bike, got no idea on who it was with though, but on top of that you need to factor in transfers as Geneva airport is bout and hour to hour and a half away from morzine. So we just drove, it saved the faff of boxing up the bike and then worrying about the dick of a baggage handler and and the faff of transfers etc.

lol, thats what i will be saying dude. my two mates ride a meta 5.5.2 and spesh pitch respectively. both got 140 travel each. will this be enough to take everything there or would full on downhill bikes be the order of the day. the bike hire there is expensive so hoping these will be fine for full on nuts riding.

140mm bikes can be ridden on anything, whether this is all day rides, or on the DH tracks.
There's much more than the DH tracks there.

I took my meta 5 there two years ago. It coped fine although it is at the limits of what the suspension can cope with. The worst part is the ability of your fork to soak up the braking bumps. but you will be fine. Most of the tracks aren't out and out DH tracks, even the Pleney isn't like Inners or Fort Bill which are way more brutal. Don't hire a bike, not worth it and far too expensive. Just enjoy every moment with the meta its a very capable bike which can cope with terrain way beyond for which it was designed.
