Just come back from a very wet weekend in Wales where at approx 4am Saturday 21st August our van was broken into, my Commencal was taken along with my friends Carrera Banshee, an Iphone, a wallet full of bankcards etc and some cash.
The van was parked right next to the tent which we were asleep in at the time.
Absolutely gutted as i had only bought the Commencal 2 days before.
A large cash reward is offered to anyone who can help me get the bikes/belongings back

Never experienced theft whilst camping by trails - ill be keeping an extra eye out from now on and a few extra locks on.

Reminds me when i was snowboarding up at the cairngorms some years ago and some jakasses went up the gondola and nicked two boards at the top from some guys - they were gutted, completely messed up their trip.

Sorry its taken forever to reply people, no unfortunately i didnt get round to insuring it in the 2 days i owned it!! major lesson learned there i can assure you!!! yeah i know the frame numbers, was convinced at the time that the police were going to find it but not so sure now!!! We were camping in the campsite that is next to Cwmcarn, the Cwmdown uplift service and the Twrtch trail.

I know it's a bit late now but one of those small personal attack alarms wired between the van and the frame could have, maybe, woken you up? Just hide the alarm & use thin fishing line which won't be seen.  I've got a couple of these but like you, too late to prevent the theft of my bikes.

hi bud. i know its not quite the same thing but i had my meta stolen from my shed along with my hard tail. the old bill said its either miles away now or split for parts, said its big business bikes being stolen to order now. as for yours as you were near a mtb course where people come from miles away i reckon and i hate saying this but i doubt it will be seen again buddy. someone on another site i go on suggested something called clear water as a way to detect an owners bike.its a dna system i think. not clued up so dont really know. this only aids in detecting the owner though. wont stop them going in the first place i suppose.

Its called SMART WATER, i dont know its cost, but apparently it works like a dna type thing. I know that virtually all arrested persons are scanned for traces against it. The Police regularly have crime prevention drives through their neighbourhood teams where they supply free stuff. i recently picked up a couple of microchip tags from my local force which are put into an 'unremovable area' & will identify my bikes if they are ever stolen.
