In need of new tyres!!

Hi - I have been running nobby nic's 2.25 front and rear with no real problem on my stumpy but its gone for the Meta 6, they dont seem so good now...dont run to great on low pressures and was slipping all over the shop at Cwmcarn last week - Was wet but nothing to how it will be in a few months

Do i need an AM specific tyre?

I have been suggested that I should go for a Rubber Queen 2.4 on front and Race King 2.2 on the rear? Or was it a Mountain King rear???

Should i just go with Rubber Queen on Front and Rear?

Any more suggestions???

I ride pretty hard on the downs! Not worried about pavement use...etc

I weigh in around 14st7lb kitted up and have DT Swiss EX 5.10 rims front and rear!

I want a decent tyre with lots of grip so i still feel in control but one thats not gonna puncture every run obviously.

So far im looking at:

FRONT: Rubber Queen Folding 2.4
REAR: Race King 2.2. ProTection

Help.........................
Suggestions.................

im liking rubber queens all round on my Meta 5 at the mo, bit draggy on the ups though
they are massive tyres though - 2.25 is more like a 2.4, Im not even sure there would be enough clearance for a 2.4 on a Meta!

I've used mountain kings before now and had nothing but trouble with pinch flats. If you are hard on the downs then this might be a problem for you too.

I run a Maxxis super tacky high roller 2.35 on the front and a maxxis ardent 2.25 on the rear, both single ply.

No probs what so ever. We do have a lot of sand stone around where I ride and I tore the sidewall to death on an xc pro a couple of years back on a sandstone riverbed. I am now a lot harder on that river bed. The maxxis tyre just laugh it off.

Just my own opinion though. Other people might have their favourites.

Panaracer Fire XC!  They outgrip the Kenda Nevagals I have on my other bike by a country mile, last for ages and are relatively cheap.

There's also a Fire FR if you want bigger than 2.1, but I've not tried them myself.

I second the above (previously used a 2.1), very lightweight and super grippy, a class tyre.

after hours of forum debate i have opted for:

Minion and High Roller combo

2.35 Front and Rear

Double Ply supertacky front and single ply folding rear heard nothing but good things so for £45 cant really not try it!!

The nobby nics were £40 each - Me feels i wasted some cash!!

I really wouldnt go for the Dual ply effort on the front man, its a VERY heavy tyre and you really wont ever need a dual ply effort up front anyhows, think about it you onyl ever pinch flat a rear not the front so why need a dual ply there?
Im currently Removing my Dual ply minions from my Supreme cos they are just too damn heavy and im not one that get punctures at all so i have opted for the much much lighter Exo protection Minions, they are effectively 1.5 ply but weigh in at around the same as 1ply efforts.

I'm rolling mountain kings F&R on my spesh enduro & for xc use they're great but i wouldnt go anywhere near cwmcarn with them!!
In my opinion you've made a good choice on the supertacky high rollers, although i personally have stuck a swamp thing up front on my orange 224 which has yet to fail me; even during this years trip to the alps (although les gets was wet...as usual when im there!)
in short, ive found high rollers to be superb tyres as long as weight isnt an issue.
