I'm currently looking for a bike that will take more abuse than a 140mm trail bike, getting more toward medium DH riding, but a bike that pedals ok on flatish trails aswell, im leaning more towards the mini dh but would welcome any advice.
cheers, ollie.

total compromise get the 6. Will do pretty much everything pretty well. Can pedal up and do XC routes and can do DH runs but will be at, and slightly beyond, its limits on full DH runs. My bro does all this on his 6 and can't stop saying how good the bike is. That said its highly specked with 36 rc2's etc so it costs.

More inclined to uplift days and DH - get the mini i.e this takes up more of your riding than say GT red route.

Lots of money - get a meta 5 and get a supreme DH - no compromise.

But you will know all this already I guess. Your heart and head will already be telling you whats right.

If you want bike for everithing then you buy mini dh - you can pedal flathish trails wit him no problem and uphills too .Ok fact is mini is not light bike in realy step uphills is heavy for pedaling, but if you have strong legs no problem  Grin I ride wit him step moutain trails , flat trails, bp almost everything and i dont want another  bike for now ( ok maybe i will change for 09 frame soon  Cheesy )- mine have 18.3 kg with lighter tyres .Maybe you will not be so fast in uphills, but you can put lighter parts on bike  ,and you will have strong frame. Meta 6 is good choice too i think, but for some harder abuse mini is maybe better choice ( i never ride meta 6 ) so your choice .... Wink what to buy .. good luck

I'm currently using an 09 supreme (mini dh) as my only bike.  I do mostly xc but enjoy the downs more than the up hence the choice, also do a bit of freeride and downhill so I don't mind putting up with the extra weight of the supreme over the meta 6.  I've got a light but robust build that weighs in at about 36lb with single ply tyres which I use for xc and a touch more with dual plys for dh and freeride.

Couldn't have put it better than Cramaj.

I never use my minidh for XC, its just not made for it. Regardless of bob and everything its a heavy bike for the amount of travel, especially by today's standards. If you're planning on doing considerable amounts of pedalling, I'd get the Meta.

hi guys. im in the same situation. want to go bigger and already have a meta 55 uk. will this be big enough for say light freeride/medium downhill say for example stile kop with the drop offs and jumps. ive taken it to fort william and done the 4x course with the triple at the end and it was fine but at stile kop it bottomed out a few times on some of the bigger jumps. would a meta 6 give me a better range of travel or simmiliar to what i have now. im not going to go nuts downhill and not massive on the jumps so would a supreme do me with fox 36s on or would a supreme downhill still be recommended. i dont want to loose my meta but would compromise to a meta 6 for all types of riding if the benefits were greater. after all i could afford one if i sold my 55 uk and brought a 6.

If you are looking to keep the 55 then i'd say def go for a supreme, the Dh is too much for what you have in mind, the Supreme is more than capable on pretty much all dh tracks, a Supreme Dh is only really required if you are going down the route of racing or Only do Dh ridng and uplift days (but in saying that all i pretty much do on my supreme is ride Dh and freeride, never really cycle it up hills  Roll Eyes  , the only hilll i go up on that is to get to spooky woods)  but i dare say it is a capable climber but just not in my hands  Grin

would this baby be the compromise im looking for then or would i need a meta 6 vip, meta 666. would this feel much different to my 55 uk. i know it has longer travel but how are the geometry of the bikes compared to each other.

sorry to hijack this thread, thought it suited both our needs dude.

I have a supreme mini. They are lush for downhill and freeride but ave on the uphill. I just end up pushing it. I don't do any XC or even AM so I don't mind. I would say that the meta 6 is the more all round bike to choose. But have not riden on not many people have a commencal in NZ. But if you think in a years time you may throw in the XC and AM stuff like I did and be doing a 50/50 split between FR/DH then i would go for the mini. Once you start doing jumps and riding fast downhill you will soon see that where it is at. I don't even go near XC stuff now and year ago I was all about it, even loved the climbs. But the supreme made downhill so fun and gave me a heap of confidence to progress my riding.
