H folks, 5 of us are heading from Norn Iron to GT this week for 4 days biking.  Can't wait to go.  Have watched the youtube vids on the place and the trails look class.  Anyone any Trail recomendations which should be done first?  What about the off piste stuff.  We hope to head to Peebles any recommendatiosn for here too.  Some of us are not Huckers so am, xc would suit us fine

Cheers

the red route at GT, the XC route at Inners. Both very good and lots of fun. Each takes about 2-3 hours. The black at GT is a bit of a slog but if your like your xc then it is a must. You can easily do the red at GT twice in a day with a break for lunch, which helps you become accustomed to it and you will get quicker.

Not sure about the off piste stuff.

Inners DH might not be your thing but maybe worth a look as the "make or break" route might be up your street, and can be done on a trail bike no problem. You get a nice bus to the top if you don't fancy pedalling up. You can book this here http://regonline.activeeurope.com/builder/site/Default.aspx?eventid=655722

hope this helps a little

4 days is a long time to spend at GT. The blue trail is fairly short and easy, but don't get me wrong, it is a lot of fun, particularly some of the descents! Red is a nice one as well, about 3 hours or so it took us, the black is a lot longer though, but if you're into long XC epics then you may like it, i haven't done the black yet. As for the off piste stuff, you'll probably need someone local to show you all the good bits. I know a couple of them, but i couldn't really explain it over the net.

As i say, 4 days is a long time at GT, so head to inners red as well (XC course), that's a bit like the red at GT, skill wise. Though i would say it's a little more technically challenging as inners is very rocky so there are more rock features, rock gardens etc. Be sure to pump your tyres up nice and hard so you don't get loads of pinch flats like i did! (i learnt after the second one haha). I think we started inners at about 10:30-11am and finished about 4 or 5 in the afternoon, it's a nice long one so be sure to bring some energy food with you.

Have fun anyway, i'll be heading back up that way in a couple of weeks and really can't wait, i'm sure you'll have a great time!

Innerleithen XC can be done in under 2hours if you're reasonably fit. It took us that long, as we were faffing quite a bit, going pretty slowly, we sessioned a few sections, and had to keep waiting for somebody to fix punctures Wink

Normally I'd be happy to show people around, but I've been flat out for the past week, so I'm spending tonight and tomorrow night doing as little as possible, that way there is a slight possibility I may remain awake enough to complete the first aid course I'm booked on this weekend..

Hiya Fellas.  Had a great time, though was not prepared for the climbs esp on the black.  The switch backs are deadly

Arrived Thurs afternoon at Bunkhouse and did the Red at GT that day.  Black/GT on Friday and Red on Sat at Inners, mad climbs with the rocks. Then the Red at GT Sunday to finish up.  The Blue is great fun as well, so fast and bermy

Spooky wood goes on for ages.  I was laffing down the trails.

Such a great setup.

Absolutely wrecked and the bike took a hammering.
