 Cool

Oh yeah! Thanks to Steve, my new frame was delivered today, I ordered a COMMENCAL Meta 6 carbon Factory kit, so the usual spec:

Alu main frame with carbon swingarm

Rear Shock: FOX FLOAT RP23 XV
Forks: FOX TALAS FIT 36 RC2
Headset: FSA ORBIT XL2
Stem: THOMSON X4
Bars: EASTON MONKEY CNT CARBON high 685mm
Seatpost: CRANCK BROTHER JOPLIN W/remote

Now sitting on the dining table next to the 5  Grin Bars and stem will be sold onand replaced with something much wider, apart from that it's a good place to start!
Got the back wheel sorted, need to order up the front, then do a little shopping and get it ready for Morzine.

Go talk to Setve  Grin

Need advice on what parts to finish it off, been talking to a mate who is pretty 'gnar' he has done the mega a couple times (that's the master plan, to get my fitness and riding up to that level)
His input was:

Feedback, Your kit out so far is spot on.
Fox shocks front and rear are perfect.
Agree, put the carbon bars on your green bike as they’re too narrow.
Wouldn’t go above 750mm on the bars and watch the weight. Only buy a Low rise bar, need to keep the front end as low as possible. Use minimal headset spacers and run a 0 degree rise short (50 -60mm) stem.
Sunline VS-Ones 747cm or Easton Havoc Alloy 750mm or Raceface Atlas FR bars (lots of funky colours). Are all strong and light

Wheels – EX721’s on Hope Pro II’s, you’ll need a 20mm Front hub converter.

Brakes is one to discuss, the V2’s are monster brakes and given your new fighting weight might be an overkill. Hope M4’s 203 fr / 183 Rr are plenty enough for me. Even the WC DH guys are running smaller brakes now. Braided hoses are an absolute must. Take plenty of spare brake pads as they charge a fortune for them in resort.
2 hard days riding in the alps will eat a set of pads.
I got through a set a day at the mega !

Cranks/gearing etc is easy.

Tyres – Maxxis all the way. Minion FR or High roller FR with Minion RR or High Roller RR. Dual Ply for the Mega. 2.35’s or 2.5’s is the discussion to have.

Lightness is the key. You’re not heavy so don’t need an overbuilt bike. These enduro / mega events have a fair bit of pedalling in it too.

The 5 will get a hammering over the surrey hills tonight, it's more than man enough for anything over there.

You wont feel the extra weight of the Meta 6 when you are riding it. But you will feel the stiff backend and the stable forks. Its still a bike for epic tours.

As for the low front end: In the setup low riser/no spacer (XL Frame) I had the experience that the brake levers touch the top tube when turning the bars. So dont cut your fork steerer overhasty.

Funny! The only thing I would rather swap now than later are the white rims. I would like to have all in black! Wanna swap?  Smiley

Another option on the bars is the nukeproof wareheads, They're 760mm but can obviously be cut, and are pretty light and for less than most of the other wide bars I found.  I have a set on my supreme and found them to be a really nice shape and feel.  I'm running them with a 50mm gap stem which seems like a good low set up.
