Did it last year... crashed and knocked myself out/caused mechanicals various and ended up pulling out after 5 runs... am already entered again this year, riding for the RAF / SMX Optics and will be spanking the living daylights out of the V10!
It's a truly truly brutal race, take as many spares as you can lay your mitts on, lots of energy bars / glucose drinks and avon skin so soft for the midges.
That all said, you WILL love it, it's an amazing day, the atmosphere frazer and the no fuss guys create is awesome and it's just such a blast.
Feel free to come say Hi when you get there, I'll be in RAF kit so won't be hard to miss!

Really sold it to me Chris! ( already spotted you on last years vid ).
It looks like I have a ride on a British companies Team bike rather than my Commie ( well they did offer and it is rude to decline these things ).
So hopefully have some good team backup too.
See you there

I was hoping to do it this year as I had a mate do it last year and really enjoy it. Unfortunately I've just started chemo and am recovering from major surgery so wouldn't be able to get enough training in to do it justice. Will defo be looking to do it next year. Something to think about is using a powerball or similar to get your wrists and grip improved so your hands don't die from all those consecutive runs.

Randomly ( or not so ) I dug out my original powerball from the garage the other day!
And because my lyriks are getting fixed i've been training with my rigid MaxMax. No better way to build up arm strength than to ride one of those over rough ground
Hope the recovery goes well and you can kick in some training early for next year ( I would have liked to have started 6 months out! )

Hope the recovery goes well Tank!
Tim, you lucky so and so... a team ride huh? Interesting! Will keep a beady eye out, but come and say Hi if you spot me. I've got my powerball out too lol.
I don't think anyone will get the same number of runs in as 2009 owing to the changes up to which should slow things down but make it much more fun to ride.
Take as many spares as you possibly can though, including brake bleeding stuff... i had a nightmare trying to scrounge enough kit to ghetto bleed mine last year when i stuffed it first run... 2 full runs with no front brake was interesting!

The world cup showed that it wasn't much slower now that they have put some decent surfacing on the new sections. When the BDS race opened the track it went really boggy on the new sections and the whole track had new kitty litter scattered on it making it quite slippy. It's all well bedded in now and running faster, so I'd expect the winners to put in the same number of runs (18 ish).
It was interesting looking at last years results, all the riders who got up the hill first, (probably on xc ish type bikes), only lasted a few laps and the eventual winners, all on full DH rigs, were a lot slower up the hill. Having the right bike is Def the first priority.

Yeah hopefully the new surface will be nice and sorted now.
As for having the right bike, couldn't agree with you more... none of the guys rocking single crowns (me included) managed to complete the full distance, the track's just too brutal for that level of hammering. A full on DH bike, even though it will take longer to get to the top (my tip just walk it up, it's a lot less tiring and not much slower!), will be significantly better over a sustained period of riding!
