Just recovering from Mayhem and there was one seriously long uphill pedal that had us mere mortals with the 3 x 9 in their granny rings at times and I must say I noticed a few people with the 2 x 10 pushing up???

IMO this is  physical strength and endurance, then 2x10 or 3x9 issue which makes the difference ...
And even with 3x9 you can always switch front from 22 to 32 and push harder  Grin

You can have as many or as few gears as you want, but if you've not got the fitness or skill to use them, then they're useless.

They did look the kind that would fall into the 'all the gear and no idea' category  Wink

Also saw lots of xc whippets with the one ring and chain device up front set up, which tbh I don't see the point of either as they were a ferkin rolling road block liability when I was spinning out my 42 x 11 top gear ratio down the 3 long descents.

Alot of its fitness or the lack of it. I ran 2x9 for along time and pretty much never pushed even on my demo i can pedal up most things, it is bloody hard going though Tongue

was the 2x10 Sram XX then?
is the X0/x9 and x7 2x10 even out yet?
If it was XX then they where probably pushing because despite having light expensive bikes their wallets are obviously holding them back with the weight of all that spare cash they must have to be able to afford XX prices

There is no nicer way to treat your blingy full carbon uber expensive bike than take it out for a nice walk though really shows your caring side, even better if you can let it off the lead to chase the squirrels

the 2x10 could be anything, Roadies have used 2x10 (doubles and compacts) for ages. They could just be using Roady mechs/chains with a cheap SLX 10sp shifter. Or Sram XX. Normal MTB shifters for the front, and the roady stuff on the rear.

What I was noticing first was the SRAM cassette as it has a distinctive design and then the front two rings.

Had a look at the Shimano 30 Sp SLX and XT on the Madison stand, 10 x 3 with a 22/32/42 front and 11/38 rear, we reckoned you could do near vertical with that low ratio Wink

Cool, sounds like it was a pretty good weekend. You racing any of the SDAs left this year? or concentrating on the BDS and WCs?
