Lads,

Struggling to find the info and my bike ain't here... How many on the Super4 ?

CRC have either an 11-32 or an 11-34 in a good price.

2010 model has a 11-32, cant find 2009 but would have thought the same. shouldnt think it matters greatly. would just change the gearing slightly. cant you contact someone at home to have a quick looksy.

Just go for the cheapest one. I used to run 11-34 then got a 11-32. Only a very slight bit of difference but the fitter i've got i don't notice.

I only run a single front, so being in the correct 1st gear could be quite important. At Afan for example on Whites, there's a couple of timesi hit 1st and on the Wall for one of the slogs on fireroad i'm hitting 1st. So if possible i'd like to keep the ratios the same. Price difference is minimal.

I run a single 36t front.. I was thinking about changing to a 11-26 as I'm not using the larger cogs at all..

What chainring are you running out of interest ?

If you're running a single up front then (unless you are a climbing god) I would recommend the 11-34 cassette.  It will give you a slightly lower gear for the up's without compromising the rest of the gearing.  Only downside is it's slightly heavier if you are really counting the grams.

Jimbo, having seen you ride I can confirm that you are (like me) not a climbing god.  
If you limit yourself to a 26t large ring on the rear it will limit your ability to ride uphill.
Don't do it unless you enjoy the thrill of the push.

Edit: I forgot, you don't have any hills round there do you?

Exactly.. Last time out I couldn't use the lower gears due to the knackered gore cable I was using. I've now sorted that with a goodridge cable, but I still don't use the lower gears. I've got the limit screw set so it doesn't shift into largest cog, as I think the chain could do with an extra link to get the gear with ease. I was just thinking of picking up a cheap used dh cassette to see what it was like?

I won't be using it for the climbs in the peaks. We pushed most of those last time!

Well that depends what's on there really as to whether i would be 'better'

I'm yet to find a hill/mountain i can't climb in bottom on the single setup.

What i don't really want to do is change things about so the gears i'm running at the moment differ. I know it's something i'd get used to of course, but i'm happy with the gearing as it is currently as it gives me no issues.

Jimbo, still on the stock 32T front. Will be buying a new one soon too but will stick with same i rekon.
