the only thing i find slightly odd about it is the ratio in terms of travel front and back. A lot of newer bikes designed for 6 or 7 inch forks run more travel in the rear (6inchs front), the same or more (7 inch front), but not less in the rear. The bikes i'm comparing it to is; sc nomad, sc bullit, cannondale perp, spesh sx, and so on.
It seems like in general commencals dh bikes has less travel in the rear than the competition, but where what travel "limitations" it has doesn't seem to have much/anything to say in terms of what's possible to do/how fast one can go with the bikes. Is that why (fine tuned ratios makes the most of the travel) or is it simply a matter of design philosophy?
That being said, the other day i rode behind a friend of mine who has a cannondale perp (180mm front/200mm rear) and even though he's a better rider than me at the current moment i'm pretty confident that as my riding progresses i will be able to go pretty much equally fast in the type of terrain we rode. Sure, in full out resort dh he'll be able to go faster, but it didn't feel like it was my bike that held me back - far from it - it was def a mix of lack of skills for more agressive dhish riding and new, unfamiliar terrain.
anyway, i'm really looking forward putting my arms/eyes on one and checking it out. After the aforementioned ride my love for the current design/my bike reached new heights. Now fox just needs to get their act together and release a talas fork with 130-160-180mm travel options. The 100mm option of the current design is pretty much useless, but the swap would warrent the best fork ever imo and - provided the frame weight of the new design is as light or lighter than the current - would make for an even more impressive allrounder, though i guess it would still be a bit lacking in the dh compartment. Then again it's a minidh bike, not a dh bike, and one hell of one (minidh bike) too
more travel in the rear, longer seat tube, lower center of gravity, the same great geo of today... man, this is gonna be one hell of a bike!
hm, the only thing that worries me a bit though is the fact that it seems to be designed around a 180mm fork (as the minidh 6.10 will sport one next year). What does this do for the geo with a 160mm fork? less slack than the current? Does this mean a swap for a totem or 66 ata? So many questions, none very important right now and they will all be duely answered in time i guess.
and just to state it again, i do love my supreme fr (minidh)!
