It has indeed. There are some pretty big plans for the MDH. More "real" info soon(ish).

what do you mean by soonish by the way? i've been asking for info on it since november is it? i'm in the process pf dialing in what my brothers and mine bike park is gonna look like the coming season so some info would be nice. The more interesting part is when and weight, though in reversed order Wink I guess travel up front is important as well as it would be 160mm or no go.

as mentioned before, i love my supreme fr, but i'm still wishing the frame would be a bit lighter for better versatility Wink hehe

I can only spill the beans once Commencal say I can. Yes, I could just ignore their wishes to keep development info out of the public domain, and blab about the quite frankly amazing things they have planned for the next 2 or 3 seasons, but sure as hell I'd be dropped out of the loop pretty damn quick.

So, I play the game, "leak" out what info I feel I can get away with leaking and keep quiet about the stuff I know I really have to keep quiet about. In return we get the odd exclusive for the site and the inside track on soon to be release information.

That is how the game works.

well, no shit sherlock  Grin Grin Grin hehehe  Grin Grin Grin  (sorry, just had to type it)

but, you didn't answer the question, how soon is soonish? (unless the answer is i have no idea, big ol max haven't said when yet Wink ) i do not care whatsover about other designs to be released 2-3 years from now, but info on a frame that isn't - well - that far from being released would be nice(if it's still a 09 frame), eventually. I don't need it today and i don't need it tomorrow, but after waiting for the info on the new cannondales for two months after they said it would be released "soon", my liking of that word has dropped significantly Wink  Especially as the two new heir apperents for the prophet, the rize and the moto, didn't rise to the occasion at all. Maybe i should work on my hacking skills? No wait, i find computing or computer designs as interesting as eh.. something really mindnumbingly boring so i guess i have to be patient for now. hehe, i've waited since november so i guss i can wait a few more months.

Doesn't matter that much i guess. I'm just hoping they keep it at 160mm and use lighter tubing to end up around 3.5-3.8kgs with an evolver air shock. Considering the weight of commencals other frames i guess that's a bit unlightly, but upping the boutique-feel of their frames would be nice. Commencals frames look good and work really well, but they are a tab bit on the chubby side.

I don't know when soon is. I know it'll be before the end of May, at that's the official launch of the 09 stuff (it's not gonna be available then, they're just showing it off to the world. But how soon before that I'll be able to tell what I know, I don't know, for the reasons stated above.

Wink hehe, well time will tell. Now i know about the release date (aboutish) so that's good. I thought it was further off. So they won't make it avaliable untill even further off? Oh well, i guess the complete redesign will be worth it. As always before, thanks for the swift and informative reply.

I'm as keen as the next man to get my hands on a new Mini DH, but speaking with the guys I never got a straight answer about when it's going to be released. The DH is defo for the 09 season, the MDH was not so clear. I do know that weight for the first gen of the new frames (both DH and MDH) are the same as the 08 models. The thinking is get the redesign out there and reliable, then look at saving weight for the 2010 season model.

I had a decision to make recently about my MDH and I decided to keep it for the remainder of this season and well into next year. It reliable and totally dialed, the first generation of the new design might not be so sorted, so as my own ride I'm sticking with the 08 model for at least another season.

yeah, makes perfect sense, similar to what they did on the new dh (with cedric riding it all last season). Considering the proto above looks really similar to the new dh it makes perfect sense to delay the introduction of the new model untill it has been throughly tested after the redesign, which is prob more time consuming now since their top riders has switched to the 666 for the mega events. It's better to do something right from the get go instead of introducing a model, have it fall apart or redically redesign it for the second year around. If that happens the consumers will loose faith in both the model and the company. After all, the mini is prob one of the best frames in the lineup, though i feel not everybody get what it's about. As mentioned before, my only - and i mean only - real "issue" with the current design is the weight.

So ... is this it?

I'm rather disappointed they used such a short shock, it seems like a 7.875" with 2" stroke ...
Assuming the travel is around 160mm, that would mean leverage ratio is more than 3:1 ... which isnt exactly a feature I'd expect from a 09 bike, especially if fitted with an air shock.

I do however like the fact the centre of gravity is lower and the seattube is longer...
