Hi Guys I've just taken delivery of a single ring and chainguide and have been trying to fit them but i cannot get my cranks to come off. They are 08 Truvativ firex cranks off my 08 meta 5. Ive undone all the bolts but they just wont come off am i missing something? Also are there any specific tools i need for fitting my chainguide (which is an mrp 1.x) or should i just take it to my lbs and get them to do it? Thanks!

What ^ said.
(you'll need one with the bigger pusher, or you need to sacrifice a penny to prevent the pusher getting stuck in the bottom bracket threads)

Err is the crank extractor the hexagonal metal bit that came in the box with the bike? If not I don't have one so I will have to take it to my lbs to get it done

You could buy a crank extractor for about £8 and save yourself some cash. Good way to start building up your tool kit.
Handy to have for when you renew chainrings and fit chainguides etc.

You have undone all screws?
The firex cranks have a self extracting crankarm bolt (silver), which you have to leave in the crankarm. The M15 bolt holds up against the M22 crankarm bolt while loosening and the crankarm comes off. In theory.

If firex cranks are self extracting, then the 'hexagonal metal bit' should probably be attached to the cranks!
(I've never understood truvativ crank systems, as they created their own standards for external bearing bottom brackets!)

Right, as others have said, these should be self extracting. First of all, put both the bolts back in, make sure the outer one is tight. Use correct sized key to undo inner one, poking key through the outer (larger) one. It will at first go tight as the two bolts touch but with a bit of force should loosen, pulling the crank arm off with it. Magic!
