 Cry Cry Cry Cry

http://www.bikeradar.com/news/article/afans-penhydd-mountain-bike-trail-to-close-25489

Well just the Penhydd trail but I reckoned that was the best anyway (well better than the Wall, maybe too much fireroad to compete with Whites Level), more natural and great sections like Hidden Valley and Dead Sheep Gulley

So glad we rode it last month now  Cool

Was that the one that I nearly gave up on?

So the worst trail in afan  is closing for "about a year". Stop the press!
I'm sure it will be much better when it reopens anyway....

I'm so glad to have ridden it. What a good route it is.

I'm just worried about the White's Level shutting for the wind farm to be built that popey was talking about.

No that was The Wall
oh hold on no it was Whites Level
oh sorry wrong again it was all three Grin Grin

(yes it was)

exocet - I liked it, felt more natural than the others and okay the climb up is boring and endless but its a damn sight better than the Wall for fireroad and there are some good sections on it
I would say the Wall is worst at Afan - apart from 3 decent sections all bunched together at the end its just one big fireroad

Hey, there's no need for that!  Grin I was trying to get a 37lb bike up the hill without using the biggest cog. Damn rear mech.  Roll Eyes Plus I think I had the wrong tyres too.... and it was the wrong sort of mud..... sun was in my eyes as well.  Wink
Anyway I was fine on the the first route of the day, and I only did two routes 'cause I wasn't there on Sunday.  Tongue

I thought the downhill bit was pretty good. It would have been better if it was dry as it would have been really fast, but I still enjoyed it.

I dunno, if they keep the best bits and get rid of some of the slog (got the fireroad climb and the pointless "muddy track then climb bit" in mind here!) it could make for a good revamp.

Shame it's shutting but tbh it was the one I least enjoyed. Seemed like far too much fireroad climbing to me.  Maybe they can improve it.  It's worrying that there are plans for the other trails as well though.

Hidden Valley is one of the few sections I remember from a roadtrip down there a couple years ago.

Ah well, one less reason to go back.

Hidden valley was one of the better sections. I've some video of it from the trip the other week. Must get round to posting it up.

TBH, i wasn't that impressed with it as a level. I prefer either of the other 2.

Sad in a way as i like options... but it wouldn't be that high on my list usually though.

Be interesting to see how it affects the Afan Monster for Macmillan i've entered as that was taking in Penhydd too.

That was my first ever welsh trail so it will always be a special place for me Smiley  Hidden valley was awesome.  Have ridden both the wall and whites and prefer whites due to the fun climb rather than fireroad.  Need to get over there again.

I'm going to give Penhydd a farewell ride this weekend.
Oh well, at least the closure will motivate me to go further up the valley to ride Whites Level.

And there's always the secret trails…
