Yeah this is amazing, 'cos it makes it sound so light now!

Well, I just swapped the fork for an air driven one and that was the weight of a good dump removed from the bike, now if I just wash off last year's crap then I can probably shave off even more!

Actually, thinking about it, I'm not even sure one can 'shave' off 400g (almost a pound), it's probably more like 'amputating'. Hope I don't offend any amputees with this.

Back to the bike (and this is by all means no comment on the 35lb Supreme thread), my Meta VIP now weighs in at just over 15kg (32lb?), so it wasn't especially light with the Fox 36 Van on it, and still isn't with the Fox Float, but she does take a beating, and I love her for that!

Bringing the weight up on the light frame is a 75cm Spank 777 bar, 2.4" Maxxis Advantage tyres, through-axles front and back, AtomLab hub at the back, BlackSpire chain device, 180mm discs and a GPS holder. Bringing down the weight is a carbon X0 rear shifter and as few stickers as I feel comfrotable with.

If anyone ask nicely, or otherwise, or probably anyway, I will post a pick soon.

PS, it's dirty now 'cos my lst ride was before xmas and the temperature has been sub f*cking freezing ever since, not to mention the metre of snow that has forced me to snowboard twice a week instead of biking. Life is soo hard sometimes!
Still spring is in the air, and I have a 2010 Meta 6 to play with too... how will I choose what to ride? Cry

I'm not picking holes, just interested... why build your 5.5 with 36s when you also have Meta 6? Surely they are pretty similar bikes now?

Yes you are picking holes! Stop it!
Haha, nah, I had the 36 Floats lying around, like you do, and the Meta 6 is for me and the missus to share. I'll use it when we trail ride while she uses the 5, and she'll use it for freeride while I use my dh bike. And I'll use it for enduro type stuff.

As for an in depth review, I'm waiting on spring! I haven't really ridden the 6 yet, maybe tomorrow.
My 55 is built up to take a beating, I've used it for mountain tops and wicked downhills, and gnarly trailwork.
It could have been built up lighter, but my background is in dh, not xc, so I'm used to doing stupid stuff and letting the bike take care of itself. And it's only a few pounds heavy.

Pics are taken, but are too large, so when I get round to it I'll sort it out.

Well ok, maybe a little bit  Wink

Sounds like a good enough reason to me  Cheesy

I'm currently working out to shave a coupla kilos off my bike's rider...  Wink

i can beat both of those, i saved around the 850 gram mark on my combi by switching the heavy dart 2s to some nice light fox floats, not sure on exact weights cos i cant find the weight of the 2006 fox floats anywhere....

Ok here's some pics

1.) both bike together, right: the 6, left: my 55 basically built like a 6.
2.) 6
3.) 55
4.) 6's hub, thru axle and brake, all very tidy and sweet.

And more

1.) The main body and pivots of the 6, Boost valve shock, and I've added a chain device as it has ISCG05
2.) Front hub etc
3.) bars and controls, nice, but I might go for a wider bar, this is fine, but I'm used to wider.
4.) seat up!

Some more

1.) and down, you gotta love these seatposts!
2.) fork down
3.) fork up! Travel adjust is great and really works for this bike, as it's shorter in the frame and with a short stem this is a good thing for those pesky uphills, it also means you don't have to ruin the downhill characteristics by stiffening the suspension for upping.
4.) rear hub on the 55, dirty! Through axle, X0 and Formula Oro brakes

And even more

1.) main body pivots and RP23 shock (no boost valve) and BlackSpire chain device. I have been fine with just 9 gears on this bike, but will try 18 on the 6. The crank is lower on the 55 than the 6 and the rear frame less agressive for big hits, but better for trail undulations.
2.) new fork (hence it's lack of December mud), Fox Float 36, 400g lighter than the 36Van I had, both are lowered to 140mm travel, but the air shock is made for it, the Van I cut the spring for. (don't tell anyone)
3.) wide bars, Spank Spike 777 cut to 750mm, nice and give good leverage for uphills and tight trails.

I've only tried the 6 once for one hour, but  found it smooth as Smoothy McSmoothysmooth. I didn't miss the 3 settings on the ProPedal that the RP23 has, but did lower the fork for uphills as that seemed to counter-balance the short stem. The ride was only tarmac as we have snow still, but I did try some carves, bunny hops and manuals. The 6 is defo playful and fun with the fork at full length and the seat down. I loved it.

Now if the snow could just f*ck off I could try the bike in the trails!
