I've just weighed my 08 55VIP, and it isn't just ME that needs to go on a diet!

It comes in at 37lb! Shocked Shocked Shocked

That seems quite heavy to me. Is it?

I've got RS Coil Lyrics, Hope Hoops with dt 521 rims, xt drive train, so nothing extreme.

How heavy is yours?

That's virtually the same weight as my mini Cheesy

Quick question, what tyres and tubes are you running? DH tubes/tyres can weigh up to about 3lbs heavier than XC tubes/tyres.

So my mini is about 37/38lbs.

I've got a dh tube up front, and am using Hutchinson Barracudas.

It does seem heavy!

Have you tried cleaning it? That might make it a bit lighter.  Wink

My 09 supreme is 36lb, 37lb with dual ply tyres.  No need for DH tubes unless your battering things all the time, I've been running 2.35 width normal thickness tubes for the past 2 years with single ply minions with one puncture that I can remember.  Even in the alps running dual plys I only got 1 puncture all week using normal thickness tubes.  Plenty of dents in my 721s but only one puncture.

Remember to use lots of chalk in the tyres though as that's what helps prevent pinch punctures by allowing the tube to slip out of the way as the tyre compresses.

that does seem heavy but just a pair of tyres can weigh upwards of 5lbs and pedals can weigh well over a lb but i dont understand the general obsession with weight of MTB's.
I mean oviously its ridiculous to have something so heavy you cannot pick up with ease.

It would cost me ££££'s to lighten my bike significantly but cost me nothing to lose 5lbs in body weight not that i want to cos i like steak, curry, cake and beer too much.

Your scales could be faulty?

I suspect your scales lie.

My extra large Meta 5.5.3 weighed 34lb with a set of scales I know over-read. Although I've got the RS Revelations, which are a bit lighter.

Your tyres are heavy, but not THAT heavy.

Anyone interested in knowing the real weight of their bikes should have a look on ebay, I got my hanging scales off there for £6 posted from a UK source.  Accuracy is tight enough for weighing bikes as +/- 20g and it just takes that "i think" out of the equation.  Tis nice when changing lots of bits like i did on my supreme to see what difference they really make.
