Think I have just got myself some new wheels for my Meta so as soon as they and a 12mm conversion kit turn up I will have my existing complete rear bolt through kit and wheel for sale comprising of -

Meta / Supreme 08 or 09 12mm dropouts
12mm QR bolt through axle
12mm (135mm) rear wheel - Sun Singletrack rim/Formula (Commencal branded) hub (was original spec on a Supreme)
basically everything needed to convert rear to 12mm bolt through
drop outs are brand new unused, wheel and axle as good as new, used only a handful of times

Mark W on here already has first refusal and these won't be available probably until end of next week but just a heads up if anyone else is tempted

Can I ask a stupid question?  I have an FH-M775 rear hub on my 2008 Meta 5.5, and I'm quite sure its the cause of the creaking I've been suffering.

What is the simplest and cheapest (cheap = reasonable quality, not "breaks in 5 minutes") method of installing a bolt-through system on this?

b) buy it off them!

Other than that, I'm not sure there's anything both simple and cheap...

1. Get a simple 12mm hub like this: http://superstar.tibolts.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=31&products_id=208

2. Get the correct length spokes and build you own wheel. Its not hard at all and with the hub and spokes will cost less than £80. Follow this guide and you can't go wrong: http://www.sheldonbrown.com/wheelbuild.html

3. Use the 12mm drop outs that you should have got with your bike, if not use these: http://www.realcycles.com/products.php?plid=m24b0s211p1287

4. Get a cheap axle like this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/12MM-THRU-AXLE-135MM-WIDE-CHROME-STEEL-NEW_W0QQitemZ380199322231QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_sportsleisure_cycling_bikeparts_SR?hash=item5885a54277 I've got one as a spare now, its not that light but it works perfectly and you only need one hex key to tighten it.

Job done, and it will cost less than £120. You wont get any cheaper without getting 2nd hand, and even then you would be pushing it.

I just checked the BB and it was ever so slightly loose on the drive side (about finger tight!), so fingers crossed it won't be creaking tomorrow

I'd still like to stiffen the rear up though, I ride a road bike as well, and its amazing the difference.  You really can feel the rear wheel swinging from side to side, as you pedal, compared to a stiff road frame

Using a spoke calc, it turned out as 261 /262 with my Sun ringle rims. As it was my first go at building a wheel , decided sod it ill use the old spokes as Ill probably be doing it again later any way. (old ones were close enough)  Sheldon Browns Tut was excellent BTW

As for the drop outs, I didnt get 12s with my bike, just another set of 10s so I opened out the 10s with a 12mm slot drill on the mill at work. (just at the top of the slot, so the shaft is retained  ) until I get some new ones. To be honest I think the modded ones will be ok...

It it all falls to bits / cathes fire/ explodes, ill let you know. It is stiffer for sure on the "road outside my house" test Having a proper go Thurs

When I read other people's threads I like them to have closure so thought I'd better do the same for mine...

Having gone for a 12mm QR bolt rear wheel I decided I should match the front too so I'm getting 15QR lowers on my Fox Floats and a new wheel with Hope hub & 719 rim.

Ready for Scotland later this month- in the immortal words of Ferris Bueller / Yello: "oh yeah"
