Hi

Looking for a bike for my son to use for DH...got my eye on a Small/Medium Commencal Supreme Mini DH 2 ('08)....he's 4'8" and 45kg...any ideas whether this bike would be too big/heavy for him..any one know of any youngsters who use this bike...failing that...any suggestions..budget is an issue...might be able to stretch to 600ish quid...

Cheers

Hi Ragged,

If you can get a MiniDH 2 for £600 you are getting a lot of bike for that money!

However at 4'8" and 45kg it is going to be far too big for DH. Most kids that big are riding hardtails on DH trails as you can get much smaller models and with a proper sized bike you can get some proper control.

The only full suss bike I have seen that size ( which is any good ) is the Kona Stinky 2-4...might be worth trying to track one of those down?

Hope that helps

There is a 2009 model of the supreme mini DH that had 24" wheels but I've never heard of or seen one in the flesh so I think they will be very rare and highly unlikely to be available 2nd hand yet.

You could try a small meta 5 or similar as that should have plenty of travel for a small person and will be light too.  You could change the wheels to 24" ones too to further reduce the standover hight.

hi mate, i was at style kop the other day and a young lass was rolling on a little kona howler, it looked a little gem and she said her boyfriend had taken it of a 15 ft drop so they are built to take some Shiite. rather recommend a commi but like the other guys said may be a bit big yet and hard to get that cheap.
