I flew last year.... but a drive down in a van sounds fun.

Its not bad, but you neeed at least 2 drivers so you can take shifts (4hour blocks works good, its a 16 hour drive from edinburgh so we did 2 shifts each) ,but last year we split the drive over 3days to get there (thurs night 4 hours to birmingham, friday we drove untill we were 1.5hours short of morzine, then sat we drove the final 1.5hour stint in the am) this however really dragged the journey out and it sucked, but on the way home we did it in 2 days, so left morzine at 2pm and drove to calais and crashed over night, then fired back over the channel the next day and headed home. I reckon if i was to do it again though i'd try to do it all in one go in 1 day, if there was 3drivers it would be a breeze.
Only prob is that i dont have a suitable van to do the drive this year, last year we took my mates renault traffic, so it was a nice comfortable drive (honestly i have never driven such a comfy vehicle for long distances) but he wont be coming this year and my current van is a vauxhall combo so only has 2 seats etc   Cry

I drive down to Austria a couple time in winter, do it in 1 hit alone, it's easy enough to do so would do the same when I go to France. But someone else to share it with would be cool  Cool I'm in regardless, but only got a Golf 4 at the moment and get get many people/kit in that.

Bike packed and ready for the off on Friday. Edinburgh - Geneva - Rhodos Hotel Morzine. 5 days of bike heaven.

Hope you guys can sort something out to make the trip.

Since you don't really know each other I would get a disclosure check done on each other - there are a few shady characters on this site!! Grin

I reckon the 6 should be just fine, infact on many of the easier trails such as the blue runs it will be spot on, but just on the harder black dh runs etc it would be a bit pushed, but you dont have to do them, in most parts there are red options to get to the bottom of the same hill.

the six will be fine - even the blacks. Braking bumps will kill your hands but there is a price to pay for getting a couch to the top.

Take your own pace and enjoy

If we choose to fly it willl come in at around £170 each with easy jet,  thats including bike carriage, thats me flying from edinburgh and you guys flying from london, there are flights out on the 21st of aug at similar times from both airports,so we would arrive in geneva within 30mins of each other, and same for coming back on the 28th. so that is a decent option.

Okay sounds good to me, I'm not too far from Gatwick or Heathrow, can sort a lift no problem. Any idea of decent places to stay, where was you last year? I'm not fussed aslong as there is somewhere to sleep, wash and keep the bike safe when I'm not on it. Oh and not too far to stagger back from the pub ;-)
