this is one thing that frustrates a lot when looking for new bike and compearing. why can't manufacturers show it clearly? ones that do, gets my points. like generally for informativeness(is that a word?) for example some dislike canyon cos its not cool or something but I really give respect for such a good website! I'm not looking too much the weight thou I think I'm not that good I should worry. but it worrys me a bit cos I'm getting my first fullsuspension, and i know I can do alot of stuff with it I couldnt do before but hope I can still do all the stuf I did before you know.

to the point!
yesterday I needed some reason to not to do my work on saturday evening Wink so I started calculating the parts of meta 1 and 2. as all lovers/admirers(is that a word?) know, it's sayd 1weights 12,6 kg and 2 weights 13,5 kg. now I would want the 2 for the color(I like the goldish brown helluva more. If someone could swap the frames in the shop?). so theres a good thing to waste my time on to know where is the weight difference!
2's rims are lighter(=weaker?) so the rest of the stuff should weight a lot more compared to 1's parts! but no, brakes etc are same plaa plaa no big differenses in any part exept the rims, thou I don't know the difference of the handlebars and the hubs and the BB. can there be almost 1 kg difference?! according to the weight info I could find in the internet the bikes should weight about the same!!!

now did I miss something very important and obvious here? Did I think of wrong rims??? most possibly I'm just beeing very stupid here, please let me know! but cant help of thinking that is Commencal taking the weight for meta 1 from size S and the weight of meta 2 from size L or something to make it look heavier so poeple would buy the more expensive bike? The frames are the same in same size aren't they?

to use some more time writing this I could even ask opinions if theres something really big or what is the most important reason if theres some (rims???) to buy the number 1 not the 2??? Roll Eyes
I'm sure SteveB would know the answer to all my questions;) Grin

or you can just start talking generally about weight issues or what ever if you don't have anything specific to say about the metas, just hope people will say somethink so I can spend time on reading this forum Tongue
hope your having a relaxed sunday evening all ya!

Have you considered the different weights of the paint? I heard that the different pigments used in the colours could not only affect the overall weight of the finished bike, but if you combine them with the drag caused by wearing dark colours then you have to use white tyres just to get the bike moving?  Roll Eyes

Just a thought though

p.s. Always use quoted weights as a guide....

You say you are not that bothered about the weight as you don't think you are good enough to notice! So what is the point of this post! Just ride and have fun, why are so many people worried about a few grams here and there, bikes are for fun and getting away from it all, not to worry if the guy next to you on the trail has a lighter bike. For the record my I have no idea what my mini dh weighs but I know I have a good time riding it.

you guys are totally right. maybe I should just order the bike and stop hanging around forums...

I guess the reason behind this really was I'm wondering if there some big difference between the two models other than weight. If the the parts are close to equally good for having fun and long lasting too then I could take the heavier and cheeper. ofcourse I could ask about the rims for example in other forums or go to shops. but I'm working all the time with my notebook and its fun way to have a break asking what people think. obviously you think this is not the place for that so I'm sorry. Cry

but didn't you know that hating was cool like years ago Wink

quoting - thanks for advice i'll do taht in the future.

Affe...you sound like the perfect candidate for a custom build!

You obviously like your research, so why not get yourself a Meta 5 VIP frameset and then invest that time in working out the best components to build it up with?

Granted you will be on a budget, but that doesn't mean you can't build your dream machine :-)

Custom builders are the new Stats Men! Grin

Cranks are different too. THe Truvative Howitzers that came on my MiniDH and Maxmax are ridiculously heavy.

Add in the differences in the rims, hubs, seat etc and it all adds up. Saving weigth is always difficult and expensive because there is no obvious anvil you can dump, it's small savings here and there that really add up (and add to the cost).

I like to work out how much a lighter part will cost compared to the weight saving. If it is less than 18p a gram then it's pretty good.

What was your final figure? I just ordered a few of the super bright cree LED's from China to make some, cost is probably about 5p per lumen without batteries and not including the hours I will probably have to spend making them...

Are you going to put that on your helmet or on your handle bar?

What do people prefer? reasons?

(((offtopicing dont read if you ger angry: today I went to see the thing live for the first time!!!!! the golden no2 is so beautiful I peed gold after, went home and saw this 20% discount was off but same time they answered my mail telling they dont ship over seas anyway so not sad. the not-so-beautiful-at-all no1 felt a lot lighter in my hands even thou it was one size bigger(!) maybe it was some kind of trick! over all the frame felt huge even it should have been just the right size and the riding position on my current bike is on the longer side of xc, maybe its just because of the style with the wide handle bar and longer travel fork.)))
