update,my Girlfriend has finally got a bike on budget. She has opted for a 2009 Genesis Altitude 00,its best we have seen for the money. The bike shop accepted a cycle to work voucher but we had to pay a little bit more than the advertised sale price of £550 because the shop loses 10% on a voucher(apparantly). The bike has a really smart steel frame decent Deore components and a reasonable Tora coil fork,it feels pretty light and the thin tubing looks so much better than oversized Aluminium.
