its an argument for wearing a full face helmet if nothing else.

Hmm, yeah maybe. It was a pretty freak accident though, and with the impact into the board, a full face lid could've done more damage to my neck than anything else. It is however, an argument for wearing a helmet. My Sworks 2D lid saved me from having much worse head injuries

Makes that split finger nail in an earlier post seem insignificant totally,i hope the bloke is embarrassed about the picture now.
Eh bawbag, i think you will find that I was first to point out that my injuries were indeed 'feeble' when creating this post, and was expecting some major ones. Wink

No pictures unfortunately but my list of remotely-interesting injuries is:

3) Split my knee open down to the bone, needed 3 stitches.
How? A suspension bolt was missing that I failed to spot (yeah yeah I know but it was my first full-suss bike and because it was the securing bolt rather than the one that forms the pivot it wasn't immediately obvious!). Popped out of a compression and the bike flexed sending me left into a wire-link fence. When the bike came to an abrupt halt I continued onwards regardless, simultaneously headbutting and knee-butting a concrete fence-post. Had to cycle about 5 miles back to my car with only one foot clipped in, then drive home changing gear as little as possible but feeling every squelch in my knee when I did.

2) Concussion & tinnitus
How? Feeling invicible after a rather gung-ho trip to Scotland I attempted a coffin drop at Leith Hill in fading lilght and when I was tired. Endo'd down the landing and braked using my head at the bottom. Made funny rasping noises when I started to come round, and asked "What just happened?" every minute or so over 10 minutes while my mates got me ready to escort back to the car (which my mate drove home).

1) Lacerated kidney (that's what the hospital said- I think perforated or ruptured would be more accurate)
How? Attempting a poorly-constructed jump made by kids. Attempted to absorb the kicker which worked with the front wheel & failed with the rear. Landed front-wheel down just before the down-ramp, pogo'd into the air before landing upside down. Combination of body & bike piling down on myself squashed everything in too tight a space and pop goes the kidney. Thought I was just winded, so continued riding for 15 mins before giving up due to pain, and retired for a pint. Felt really rough, and my next pee confirmed somethiing was up. 3 days in hospital followed by 2 weeks bed-rest. Keep meaning to see if they got a pic from the ultrasound or CT scans they did!

I've also dislocated my shoulder 4 times but not from mountain biking (squash, soft-ball, beer-induced and karate)

I'll now read back through everyone else's to see how lame mine are in comparison...

May aswell add my gravel rash to the collection

Using your shoulder as a brake from about 30mph on a french fireroad is not a good idea, especially on the first day of your holiday  Undecided

Thought I'd resurrect this thread!

I did a new one a few weeks back in an endurance race- I was riding up behind a guy who was pushing his punctured bike, but he was right on the line. There was plenty of room for him to move off the line, and it's usually accepted that riders who are, well, riding have right of way. Despite shouting "ON YOUR LEFT" he seemed totally oblivious, so I ended up going off-piste to his left at which point he just walked left straight into my path!

All I did to him was push him to the ground- but for me, one end of the bars dug into the ground and the other into my groin!

The cut went right across where your femoral artery is, so the paramedics whisked me to A&E, but fortunately it didn't go deep enough.

Got stitched up fairly aggressively but it still got slightly infected so 4 weeks on and it's still not fully healed but it's getting there. I strained muscles and tendons at the same time, so a lot of stiffness in some areas to overcome. Fortunately I'll still get stiffness in another area too, but it was close!
