Hey people id really appreciate some feed back on the Supreme, i currently have a meta 6 but im due a change and really considering going for a Supreme as it looks alot more fun. Im just worried it could take away some fun out of my riding as its to much of a bike.

If you could answer me these questions it would stop me from pulling my hair out! Grin

Can they be a do it all bike? itll be my only bike and be used from Uplift DH days to XC. I also like to play on drops and jumps.

How well do they pedal? im pretty fit but i dont want to be riding a bike thats bobbing all the way up a hill as i like to ride up to enjoy the down.

Do you ride them around trail centres? i.e afan, glentress etc

Do you find on pedally singletrack that they are to sluggish? im worried that i would mish my meta on sweeping singletrack.

Im 5'11 and have a medium meta6, what size would you suggest?

I cant think of any decent questions really, i just want to know if it will do what my meta6 does but be more capable on the downs department.

Thanks

Russ

I have an 07 and its my only bike. I use it more for XC than anything else. Its a bit slow on the way up hills, but I'm not that fit anyway so its probably a lot to do with me, but its great fun on the way down. It grips really well on the climbs but I've never ridden a Meta so I couldn't tell you if its better or worse. It weighs about the same as a Meta 6 so your probably used to the drag up hills already and as far as pedalling goes it is fine with any shock, but slightly better with a platform shock of some description. Mine came with a Float R fitted as new, but I changed to a Manitou Swinger 4 Way and then to a DHX Air. The adjustable propedal is really good but not essential. I have done the forum ride round the Peak district in September, the one around llandegla in October and I will be going to the Afan ride aswell. It is fine for trail centre stuff and works well on singletrack.
I've done a bit of DH on it, but it was while my forks were being repaired so I had a set of Dorado's on it. It was excellent for most things but on big drops the front dived too much as the forks were set up too soft for the frame.
As for sizes, i think they only come in 2 (the 07 did), so I would say go for the Large.

Just to add, I always sit down when I'm pedalling up a hill, it can bob a bit if I stand and stamp on the pedals.

I have an 08 supreme as my only bike, it gets used for trail centres like Dalby and Glentress and it's great, I have climbed most ascents on mine with only a single ring 36t and chainguide setup. It suprises me how well it pedals and climbs for what is really a play/freeride bike, mine is coil at both ends and about 36lb.
I use it for sessioning DH tracks at Wharncliffe and Dalby and it's better at that than my old Specialized bighit was!
No bike will do everything well but for me I wanted a versatile bike with a leaning towards the descents and for that I can't fault it.
My mate has a Cannondale moto which is a similar sort of bike and it's a bit lighter but my supreme feels better to me for the descents due to the slacker head angle.
If you want more fun on the descents with some all round ability then the supreme is bang on.

I'll vouch for Christchurch, on the two forum rides he easily kept the pace with those of us that were on lightweight hardtails
Ok he may have been last up the hills but it wasnt by far and he was easily 2nd to the bottom (was no stopping the bikesnapper Tex) Wink
I remember when we saw him in the car park at Ladybower we were all like "how you going to do 26 miles that includes 5 big hills on that" but he was right when he said it was okay!
One plus point is that it also seems from what we saw to be an easy bike to keep clean Grin

I too am interested in one of these as a play/AM/ FR bike. it would be good to see how the 2010's ride with the 36's up front and the reduced weight. I would swap out the rear shock for either a new Boose chamber RP23 or DHX Air. Reviews of the new RP23 have been pretty impressive and may negate the need to go to DHX Air, so would be saving a lot of weight vs the Van R

Russalf let us know what you decide on and how it rides

I have an 07 Supreme, love it. Built with strong wheels, TALAS forks, DHXair, XT 2 ring setup, chain device, etc. Parts are spec'd for strength/weight compromise, it weight about 37lbs. I'd say anyone with a Supreme of any year with coils front and rear that weights less has faulty scales!

I love the Supreme. I use it for everything. But, I'm am contemplating swopping the frame to a new 2010 Meta6, as I just don't push as hard as I used to so wondering if I really need such a capable frame. But still, love it to bits.

Agreed. Mine weighs about 37lb with Totem Solo's, DHX Air, and a mix of light and strong parts. The lightest I've ever got it was 36lb but that was with the Float shock fitted, Mountain King tyres and SLX cranks. Without fitting XC forks and wheels there is no real way to get it lighter.

Cant say for the 10 model as i have the older 08 but it is a very versatile bike i recon. i use it mostly on XC trails and it is fast if its set up right. So far i have used it with a varity of forks. The Nixon fork 145mm travel gives it a low front and good pedal eficiency but lacking a bit on freeride stunts so i have currently swopped it for a  marz 55TST and it seems to be the right choise between hard hit abilyty and trail performance. I have also used it with a 66 but that is too much for trail riding so all in all i think that if you set it up right it will serve you well as a XC bike.
My setup is like this:
55TST 160mm. you can lower the travel 40mm which is wery usefull on long climbs
Shock: Manitou X6 450 pound spring (I weigh 95KG)
One ring setup 34teeth
Average speed on my local (Flat Danish terrain) 24KM XC trail 18KMPH

XC Set up

Freeride setup

All the bits off my Super4 are lying around in the store. Might try mixing and matching the spec on the Supreme to see just what I can get it down to without it becoming unusable or intended purpose.

I'm not trying to mislead anyone, my bike weighed 37.2lb last year on my lbs scales. Since then I have knocked off a pound by changing the old isis cranks for slx's, e.thirteen chainring, thomson seatpost and straitline pedals. If their scales are wrong then fair enough it may be heavier than 36lb but not by much. Wink

I'd say your stem weighs about 33lbs ;-)

What are the wheels? That's about the only spec I can't tell from the pic. Once I know those, oh and the tyres, I'll be able to guesstimate the weight.

I forgot to mention the helium in the tyres and the fact that the bike is female (they always knock off a pound or two) Wink only joking ladies Grin

Thanks for the heads up on the saddle, hadn't noticed the wonky rail, just have to find one a pound lighter than the fly ti Grin and get rid of that 33lb stem!!

Russ, sorry to have taken this thread off topic a bit Grin

I think the one thing we all agree on is the supreme is a blinding bike but a bit heavy. Keeps you fit though and so much fun, I'll be keeping the fat old bird Wink

I'm using my 2009 supreme as my do it all bike.  I agree with comments about using a 160mm fork compared to a 180mm one, I've got the marzocchi shock that was on last years supreme 2 which isn't quite as good for pedalling, but it's still better than my giant VT which was my previous XC bike in terms of bobbing.  I'm planning on running a 32t chainring to get my up all the hills (have failed a couple of local ones that I can manage on a 32t ring on the giant) when I get round to cutting off my old driveside crank, I think commencal overtightened the truvativ ruktion cranks on last years bikes as I initially couldn't get the crank bolt off, then the crank extractor stripped all the threads out the crank when I tried to get it off (yes I know how to do it and have never stripped any cranks before), I also saw a set being sold elsewhere that has been got off using a clamp or something on the crank as the threads were stripped that was off a maxmax.  Sorry I digressed!

Essentially, if you like hammering the flat and downhill, do a bit of freeride/DH and grind up the climbs then it's the perfect bike for you.  I got fed up of not having my DH bike when I hit the fun downhills and rode my scott high octane in full DH build round nant y arian which nearly killed me!
