just wondering what everyone uses to transport bikes about,
I bought a roof rack along with a thule free rider bike carrier but it dosent go well with the meta linkage and it has marked my frames where it clamps to the frame and the roof rack has started to mark the roof of my car. I regularly put it in the back of my car but its starting to damage the inside of my car(which is my second pride and joy along with my bike). plus with my missus having a kona stinky its like playing bike tetris in the back of a car trying to make sure nothing rubs together. Cant fit a tow bar to my car as the bumper comes down to low and you would have to cut a large hole in it to fit a tow bar so that is DEFINATLY out the question.
Any idea's?Huh??

Thule outride 561. It fixes where the front wheel goes, so fits all bikes exceopt the pointless new Fox 15mm standard. It has an adaptor for 20mm and it all locks on to the roof bars. As you already have the roof bars it would be the quickest and easiest solution.
You can get them in packs of 2, one for you, and one for your mrs.

with my missus having a kona stinky

oh dear hope she isnt contagious Wink

Thule Clip On High 916 or 9107 if they will fit your car
Only rock solid non towbar rear mounted carrier there is as they dont rely on fabric straps like most but solid metal tensioned bars to lock the rack in place
Might have one to sell at the right price Wink

I had a Thule Freeride 530 at first for my Meta as it fitted onto the roof bars on my car, but didn't really like the bike stuck right up there on top, so got a Thule 9106 high rear high mount one that keeps the rear lights clear, you can carry two bikes and lock them to the carrier, as well.  Smiley www. roofbox.co.uk

I put the bike in the back of my car and use dust sheets to protect everything, if I have been on a muddy ride I put a Pound Land tarpaulin under the bike as well Grin

Frequently I transport 2 bikes in the back of my car but my record is 3 bikes and 3 people in a 5 door Peugeot 306!

I have also seen people packing their wheels into wheel bags and the bike into a bike bag before putting it in the back of their car...

I would love to get a van that would be alot easier, but im currently trying to save for a house so not really viable.
I can fit the bikes in my car but its damaging the interior which is frustrating, i had a rear mounted bike rack but due to the shape of my car it puts a lot of weight on the rear window. which was worrying.
and i dont think the Thule Clip On High will fit my car.
looks like the thule outride might be the answer.
many thanks for the advise so far. Will try work something out

goes into the back of the Landcruiser. it's a 1994 so not really worried about scratches... as a windsurfer too i always felt that if the transport was more valuable than the gear inside/on the roof rack, you had your priorities wrong! Wink

The only slight issue I had with the Outride was getting my Totem's to fit. They have a lip on the inside of the fork that locates the front wheel while you put the Maxle in. The tube on the rack is thicker than the axle cups, so it wouldn't line up. All I had to do was file a couple mm from the top of the tube and then it fitted perfectly. It wouldn't be an issue with a QR fork though and possibly other brands of 20mm forks without the lip. It only takes 20 mins to do anyway.
You can just see the silver tube that needed filing on the bottom picture:

my car is worth double that of my meta and the furious put together,
i really wish i could get a tow bar but cutting a hole in the bumper.....not a chance.
And sadly the clip on high doesnt fit my car.
looks like the outride wins, got totems on my furiuos so looks like some bodging to do.... Grin
