clunk on meta 552

Hi All
Having just renewed all the bearings on my meta 552 09,there is a real bad knock coming from the rear shock area,It seems to be that the spindles holding the shock in place are just not a good fit in the frame, thus allowing this knock when bike is under pressure.Without the shock in I cant get it to make the noise at all !anybody got any ideas.

Had a similar knocking a while ago, turned out to be the "top Hats". which are silver spacers between the shock mounting eyes and the frame. they wore out pretty quickly on my meta. took my shock off and the spacers just fell out the shock eyes. got my LBS to order in some heavy duty ones. After 8 months not a thing. Try taking the shock off and see if there is any play between the axis pin and the top hat shaped spacers.
Hope this helps.

Hi Fly
As Andy says - The top and bottom eyelets on the shock have bushings pressed into them - as andy days, they look like silver tops hats (When removed). If you remove the shock and there is any movement in these bushings they need replacing. They should not move at all - and its far more likely that the problem will be the bushings in the lower eyelet.
If the bushings are fine - have you set all the bolts to the correct torque?

Just go riding with Mick. You wont be able to hear a thing.

im a bit dubious of reinforced bushes. After all, you want the bush to wear rather than the shock - the standard ones are really cheap, but by wearing out sooner they preserve the roundness of the eyelets. This subjec is a can of worms though - some people swear by the stronger bushings, and i have no experience to compare, but seems so me bushes are there to wear out, so why stick ones in that wont.

Torqued all bolts to correct settings, but still a clunk. When I have my rp2 shock out and deflated,if I put weight on it and press it thru its stroke I here the same sound, when I fill with air I dont have the body weight to make it move out of the bike.Do you think it could be a lose piston bolt or valve in the shock or am I barking up the wrong tree here.I have even thought it could be the frame as the holes that the linkages pin off to, are not really that good a fit on the 8mm pins.
All help appreciated here.

It turned out to be a stuck teflon seal in my rear shock that was making the noise. It is all sorted now, just in time for Afan.
