I recently ordered a commie furious then got sent to the falklands for 2 months (im in the forces by the way) and by the time it arrived i was sat out in the south atlantic. But should be on route back to sunny uk in a month and having nothing to spend my money on out here i got a bit of money to spend and i am thinking of upgrading some components on said commencal Grin
and i was wondering in where would be a good place to start. It came with marzocchi 66 forks which i heard the  are prone to seals blowing, and i spotted a nice set of 2010 totems for a good price.
Any other thoughts and ideas??

What model of Furious is it?

I had a Furious CG, if things had not went bad for me, some of the bling I would have considered are items like,

Vivid Rear Shock
Totems (coil 1.5")
Hope Pro II's on Mavic 721 150 rear - 20mm front
Saint chainset with Saint gearing or Schwinn Red Sram
Lower bars for the D2 stem
Elixer or genuine Code levers with pad adjust for the Code 5's I had
Some stickers for the hell of it

Oh and furry dice, a gold KMC chain and 2.7 tyres just cause, well just to annoy someone at work who see's no need for such bling and fatness  Grin

Hummm.... if its a stock full build then areas i would personally change are,

Change Brakes for Hope V2's or similar
Change Pedals for Azonic A frames

If you really have some money burning a hole in your pocket get the hubs changed for Hope Pro 2's

Yeah its just a stock furious.
Was seriously considering a DHX 5.0 air though. a mate at work fitted one to his bike and it is sweeeeet!
and the 2010 totems look sweet, not sure about the white lowers though, looking to put her on a diet so you can really throw it around Grin
been looking at some of the pictures in the forum and i am getting some top ideas on what to get.
Keep 'em coming though i think im gonna start a wish list on CRC

i can recommend the DHX 5.0 air.... transformed the rear end massivly dropped the weight aswell but that wasnt the reason i got it.. it was the ifinite adjustability of air  Cool as for the totems check out the recycle section of real cycles i think steve may still have a pair of 09 totem solo airs for a damn good price.

you will need reducer cups for you headset and a new stem if the fork you purchase is a 1 1/8 assuming you furious has a 1.5 headtube

Only the 09 CG had a 1.5" stem headset and fork fitted, the more basic models have 1.5" to 1 1/8" reducer headsets.

They would fit.

However, what you want to upgrade, will depend on what you plan to do with the bike.
Everybody will recommend what they run, but what they run might not suit you.

Like I'd never personally fit an air shock to my furious, or anything with any form of platform damping.
I like the basicness of the Roco WC on mine, and it pedals extremely well for such a big bike, so platform damping isn't really needed.
Also, the suspension is designed around a coil shock.

I've got coil totems, as I'd rather take a weight hit, than have an air fork. Coil means it's a simple case of changing the oil in the lowers occasionally, and changing the damper oil, without having to worry about servicing air springs.

For brakes, I run Hope V2s as I like Hope brakes. They are heavy, but they're reliable, easy to work on, and I know I can get spares easily if something does go wrong. If I was worried about weight, I'd probably get some Shimanos.

As for the rest of the kit, I've got pretty much sensisble kit -  X9 gearing, SRS, Saint Cranks (would of preferred some RF Diabolus, but couldn't justify the extra £100), and Halo Freedom rims on a Halo Spin Doctor front hub (there's not much to choose between cartridge bearing front hubs - could get the Halo for 1/2 the price of a Hope Pro2 at the time) , and the supplied Ringle Jumping Flea hub.

and the 08 models  Wink

MC is right its all down to preference i only chose to upgrade because i had so much bother with my rocco and 66's both blew oil seals constantly i had the rear shock repaired 3 times and the fronts six times in a year....

Since i have had the shocks i havent had a problem as for air vs coil the debate could go on for ever thou i did spy Affy running a DHX air and a set if fox on his furious....  Lips Sealed

Its a personal thing changing parts on your bike i only upgraded the problem areas on mine when i got hacked off....  Angry

Now its awesome i truely love it... nothing like shredding a DH trail..

i plan to race next season and looking forward to it with the dialed set up good luck mate

Planning on using the bike as an all round play/freeride bike. I liked how they ride and feel. I am usually living in germany so i would be hitting winterburg regularly aswell as riding in uk. not looking to race, i would rather go slow and big rather than as fast as i can. Plus my missus wants to have a blast at mega avelanche next year so i wanted a bike i can do everything on.

Thanks all for the advice so far, got some time off in febuary so i will be putting the bike through its paces at uk bike park and gonna book some uplift time at cwm carn so i will see how she handles. got a few mates with the totems so i will have to see how they differ. I havent heard much good news on the 66's that are fitted. So totems look like the obvious choice.
