Last weeks Top Gear Twingo test drive was carried out in a tunnel my company constructed in Belfast and this is how a few of the cars came out of the tunnel;-

I haven't watched the footage since to check the registration plate on the car during it's various stages of the test, but it Def won't be the same car  Grin

Oh and it was a stunt driver in the tunnel not Clarkson  Grin

Its very funny to watch and the car just about makes the roll although it does obviously cause some damage when it comes down.

Top Gear is the only program worth watching on tv imo.

Yep it was the same tunnel  Roll Eyes

The Top Gear feature was filmed about 4 months ago, road subsidence happened about 3 weeks ago.  The subsidence was caused by the tunnelling machine excavating too much earth during a 1.5m push length and creating a void in the ground 30m below the surface about 1 year ago, it's taken that long for the void to migrate to the surface.

It was expected, we were hoping it wouldn't happen until we'd moved off site though  Wink

Technically the one we built is the first and only tunnel in Belfast, all the existing ones are classed as sewer pipelines only and are a lot smaller.  The tunnel was built to stop all of the existing sewers from flooding various parts of Belfast every time it rains.

The new tunnel runs from Duncrue Treatment works up in the docks to the old gas works where it splits with one leg going to Glenmachan Street and the other to Ormeau Park, there also another leg picking up sewers from the other side of the weir.  They had access to 3.5km of 4m ID tunnel to film that 'Italian Job' footage.

It wasn't a tunnel, as such, that flooded last year. It was a newly build under pass. And it was very comical to watch the locals on the news get on like it was a life or death situation. Only if your stupid!

The road that collapsed recently was equally as funny. Again, local news was getting on like Belfast had disappeared into a hole (no bad thing).

Essentially most of NI infrastructure is pretty much always on the verge of total collapse thanks to decades of under spending by the British government, massive land development in the last decade, and a local government who give contracts to the cheapest tenders, regardless of whether they can actually do the job or not.

100miles, you over here at the moment?
