Can you buy bits and pieces on the scheme? I got told it had to be a complete bike, brilliant if that info is wrong but our scheme is limited to Evans and Halfords.

I built my Cotic soul for 1k with a second hand frame and old wheels.

frame 250
slx brakes 150
slx crank 90
fox revs 260
race face bar/stem 50
thompson seatpost 50
belair seat 30
odi ruffians 20

I quite like this new Ramones bike  Smiley

Re buying bits and bobs. I can only go on what my lbs do. Other more mainstream bike shops may not offer you the same option.

I am all for a robust frame but i have my Reign X for all mountain duties and it only weighs 32lbs. I want something that is a fair bit lighter e.g 26lbs or so but that can handle some medium abuse.

The Ragley mmmbop looks good. Seems to have some really well though out idea's like the brake mount and fitting a 1.5" headtube. It would be good if all bikes did that. Its much easier to get a 1 1/8" forks to fit a 1.5" headtube than the other way round.

Steve UK, is your avatar sped up? If not you should consider entering a few UCI events next year.  Shocked

My choice would be between the Crush and a Pace RC305, (which I think it is being replaced by the 325.5). Not sure if you can get a Pace built up for a grand though??

Check this:

For another £100 you get one with a Fox fork Wink

Damo can you get the SC Chameleon as a fully built bike or frameset only?

Both. £599 ish for the frameset or £1200 upwards I think for the build. It goes up in stages. I reckon you could easily build a good un up though for around that. They are suited upto 160mm forks aswell. I know it's a bit more that £1k but it's worth it. Like I said before, for your type of riding style(hard and quick), it would definately laugh at whatever you threw at it.

Shame.  15" a bit small for me.  I'd have probably had it if not. Smiley

Have you considered looking at something with stabilisers?
Grin Grin Grin

On One summer season (I think on one might do BtW on their full builds - can always phone and ask) - in the shocking pink colour, its just different
think at the mo if you buy a Magura fork you get a frame for free!!
Ragley (full build from 18 bikes maybe?)
Genisis Altitude / Alpitude bvut not sure on price on that they seem to have gone up a bit
Commie Ramones
A Marin maybe, they are pretty bombproof
or the Orange is always a good bet

Hmmm On One will do cycle to work and allow you to build up a frame to the value of £1000. Very interesting  Cool

Hey Tex, the bike shop in Newark I mentioned is tiny and could be easily driven past without noticing.  It's on Portland street which is the road in Newark that heads out towards Farndon.  If your driving away from the town it's on the left before you reach boundary road/sconce hills park.  Take a look and let us know how you get on.
