Can anyone point me in the direction of the Maxmax geometry? Or anymore details on it? Is it possible to buy a frame on it's own? (the maxmax website says "see what you can create with your bike shop")...
How big are the sizes?

The MaxMax is based on the Absolut Al, and geometry can be found at -

Ah I see now... Dont suppose you know anywhere with any detail photos, all I can find is the side shots, trying to find out what the tyre/crank clearance is like, nice short stays but if it is atthe expense of a big crimp then I am not so keen...

Found a few photos http://planetelibre.net/index.php?2006/12/18/208-commencal-maxmax

But none of the dropouts or rear disc mount... will it take a proper disc on the back?

Is it possible to buy just the frame or customise it (as suggested)?

Seems like I would end up changing most of the components anyway... but I cant find any other short chainstay single speed frames that appeal... lots of super heavy cromo ones with horrible gussets and huge plate dropouts though... or aluminium ones with long stays...

Anyone got one?  I was thinking of building it up with road tyres and a few lighter parts (cranks, seat post, stem etc) as a nip to the shops, but have some fun on the way, type bike... maybe put a small front disc on it later..

Come on Steve, you must have a bit of info for me... I see you have an ex display 2007 one that seems to be a slightly higher spec... "sell" it to me... or at least confirm the spec on that one..

"4130 CroMo straight blade V or disc compatable" forks

" disc/cassette ready wheels "  plural? I thought it was just the rear?

"You are advised to confirm current specification before buying."

Going from looking at the vairous official sites -
The standard front fork has both disc and v-brake mounts.
Rear, it also has the choice of both (although the absoluts that come with a rear disc as standard may not have the v-brake mounts).
I can't confirm about the wheels, although my 05 CrMo came with disc ready wheels.
I'm not sure if you can still get a VIP Absolut AL frame (I've got an 06 VIP Absolut Alu).

I'll go and chase Steve up to give a definitive answer.

^^^ Thanks, the one on the shop site seems a slightly different spec to the one on the Commencal website, maybe a mistake, or maybe last years?

Well, I gave up waiting for a reply here and went and had a look at one... and to cut a long story short got carried away and now I have a short '08... I am really looking forward to setting it up as a road bike with the original tyres to slap back on if I want to take it off-road. The frame seems great.

Obviously it's a budget bike, and I budgeted for replacing a few parts... and top priority to go will be the forks... These are absolutely ridiculous, the dropouts look like really cheap pressings and they weigh close to FIVE pounds !

I just cant understand why Commencal would put these things on it, they have made the bike so much less attractive to consumers for the sake of very little money... A proper seat post would have been nice too, but I can understand that.... It is after all a complete bike for pretty much what you would expect to pay for the frame...

Can anyone recommend a decent rigid fork as a replacement? There is a slightly shorter (an inch less) Salsa that looks OK, and a very close length Surly that are 1000g and 1400g respectively... any experience of these? any other ideas for a fork?
