So i've got a VIP supreme 6, just trying to build it up. The only thing i'm not too sure about is the forks.

Do i go for something stupidly common, like a fox float RC2, or something made by rockshox, e.g a lyric, or a totem. (both solo airs. i currently ride a DMR with pikes, and they are lovely.) I'm put off by marzocchi anyway, as they tend to be heavy, and i still hear that they don';t get flushed out properly after the manufacture process, meaning that there is a lot of metal and crap still inside the fork when sent out to the consumer.

I've been recommended a totem solo air, but i need to build the bike up light, and with the totems coming in at 6.2 lbs, and the lyrics at 5.1, the lyrics seem more attractive. (with only 20mm less travel, which i don't see as a problem.)

The rest of the build is gonna be the normal stuff...

Sram x-9, raceface all over, with easton controls.

I personally would not go for the Totems. My brother has the 2 step, and one of the lads has the solo airs. Both have burst god knows how many seals in them. If you were to go Totems I'd go for the coil version.  Wink

I'm currently building up an 08 Supreme 6/mini-dh and I was in a similar situation/crossroad as you, I decided on the 2008 Fox 36 Van RC2 to start with.. I have a Totem from my old fr/dh bike and I loved it, I might still run it on the Supreme if I find the Van to be not stiff enough..  BTW the Totem Solo Air is 5.9lbs not 6.2lbs, the Totem Coil/2-step is 6.3lbs..

But just my thoughts about fork selection:
Commencal will only warranty a 160mm fork, 282(ish)mm a2c so in order to run a Totem you would have to have it lowered to not void the warranty(the Solo Air can be lowered by rockshox I already discussed this w/them).  What made me decide on the Fox, was partly I got a great deal on it, and mainly the 2008 36s have new lowers that are supposed to be a lot stiffer than the 2007s and that was the biggest complaints with the 36s, them not being stiff enough..  I'm a big guy and I prefer the way the coil feels over an air fork, so the extra weight of the Vanilla made sense to me so I went with the heavier 36 Van Rc2.. I've heard a lot of complaints about the Lyric, and to be honest didn't want to deal with any problems and I had a fair bunch of problems on the Totem(which have all been sorted for 2008) last year..  That being said the mission control is an awesome dampening system in the Totem/Lyric, I absolutely loved it, I was a complete suspension tuning noob, but it was so easy to tune I was able to get it dialed within a month or two of using it..
