This promo don't start officially til next week, but figured I'd give you guys the heads up.

Next week is the launch of the long awaited Gamut dual guide, I did a blog post about the proto I've been testing last week. To co-incide with the launch I'm doing a special offer on the Meta 55 range.

Buy any Meta 55 model, be it bike, frame or frameset and I'll throw in a Gamut dual guide for free. If you order a bike we'll even fit it before shipping the bike.

Al the gubbins will be online about it next week, but in the meantime if you want to get in first (the offer is while gamut stock lasts) get in touch now.

Maybe you should offer a free long cage rear mech upgrade, as once again this year there are potential problems due to a medium cage being fitted. Granny ring and first few high gears are not too great, as is being in the big ring and going into the last few lower gears.

Take the gamut and do away with the big ring. Problem solved. :-)

That would give premature drivetrain wear anyway, as you aren't supposed to do that! They aren't gonna spec a bike so people can use it incorrectly.

Plus if they fitted a long cage mech it would just flap about like a flappy thing on a flappy day  Grin

Blah Blah Blah,

I have built around five of these bikes, as a retailer you cannot "tell" a customer NOT to use the last two large cogs while in the big ring nor that he is an idiot using such gears or that flappy chains are the norm while in the granny ring, considering the gearing and chain stretch under travel, and the fact that fitting a long cage rear mech sorts the problem out. Not everyone is as guilable as a Commy fan.

The medium cage rear mech is the wrong mech for a suspension bike with a 11-32 gearing and a 22/32/42 ring combo on a suspension platform which has a lengthening chainstay length under compression.

When riding on the flat, if you are in the big riing, and you make the mistake of moving into the second lowest gear, the shifting will stick due to teh tension, it is enough to snap a chain or damage teh rear mech under certain conditions. The chain is so sloppy whil in the granny it becomes a chore.

BOTH problems are eradicated by fitting a long cage rear mech.

If you run a bash set up, fine. Its OK to run a medium cage and shorter chain. But as a triple set up it has the potential to cause a customer harm and only an idiot would suggest the customer should know better.

Considering many I know look at such extremes as bail out gears, and just about every other bicycle is specced so such can happen, al I can say pathetic, I mean can you imagine some Marin owner, who regardless of wear, never had any problem running his bike in 32-42, even during full travel, imagine his horror finding his new 55 damaged due to being in a low gear and the chain snapping on a drop that bottomed out his travel?

The FACT is that quicker wear is acceptable in gear combo extremes, NOT jamming mechs or snapping chains. Rear mechs have different lengths, the appropriate length should be utilised for the appropriate use, and the FACT that full travel is compromised, as is the gearing integrity WHEN a medium cage rear mech is used, yet NOT a problem with a long cage rear mech, well that should be enough.

Like many Commencal bikes, how the bike behaves when in use was not the priority when designed and specced.
