Hi,

I have a Lazer MX6 mx helmet that I use for DH type stuff but it gets hot.

There are some cheap Troy Lee D2's about at the minute and I'm tempted to get one.

Has anyone on here got one? Are they worth the money?

Are they well ventilated? How light are they?

Any feedback would be great.

Thanks.

All full facers will get hot.

TLDs have minimal venting, but i've not heard many people complaining that they get hot, and there are LOTS of people using them.

They do have a habit of falling apart a bit, i.e the inner from the shell, but they look good, and guaranteed that if you're on an uplift, or on a race, then there's going to be over 2/3rds of the racerbois with TLD D2s (Some with the carbon)

As for the weight, they're not light, but they're not heavy. IIRC, they're slightly more heavy than the 661Evo that i have. and about twice the price..

But people say that the fit is excellent, but then again, that#s only good if your head is TLD D2 shaped..

So what do i say, SURE, get one, but i think that there are better helmets out there for the price, i.e the 661 evo carbo, and the THE carbon series (Both will be a lot lighter than the TLD, and also probably cheaper, and more likely look better also.)

That's just my 2cents, but there's no excuse for not going to a shop and TRYING one on. If it''s a bad fit, you'll hate it.

Yeah i second pretty much everything Ant said there, fit is the most important thing and TLD's aint a good fit for me, i find that 661 helmets have always fitted me perfect so thats all i have used for a full facer, my most recent is the 661 EVO like Ant, and its bloody amazing, i never even got that hot wearing it with goggles in morzine!!!!! and its impressively light considering i have the composite and not the carbon one!

Nothing to add really. I went to leisure lakes and tried every helmet on that they had. Found THE helmets to fit me the best but like Bong and Ant said, its down to your head shape.

I was in my lbs the other day and compared the weights of TLD & 661 carbon full facers and the 661 seemed to be the lightest of the two.  I got a composite THE helmet on sale form CR and its a good fit, though the strap is a bit fiddly.

TLD carbon isnt heavy at all, as for the 661 evo, i know someone who sold his and went back to a battered old troy lee because he said the evo was shite.

yeah prob cos it didnt fit him right, seeing as the TLD did fit the chances are very slim that the 661 evo would fit his melon.
and i wasnt saying the tld is heavy,my point was that the evo is light, even the composite one is surprisingly light, its the same weight as most other carbon ones,  i guess thats why its one of the most popular helmets out there tho.

I've used TLD for years and TBH wouldn't use anything else as it's def saved my nogin on numerous occations, but yes it does depend on the shape of your head, so buying a helmet on line before trying on is not recommended!

I tried a THE last time around and it didn't fit as well as the D2, plus I hate the 'quick release' buckles on some helmets as they dig into my jaw bone, double D rings for me always.

As far as lightness is concerned the TLD and THE carbons are within 30g of each other so not really noticable, (1049g v 1020g), I notice 661 keep quoting how light their helmets are but don't actually publish any weights anywhere which is a bit shite really and I'm always dubious about things like that as people tend to quote weights without things attached!!!

The lightest helment I have ever picked up is an 'Airoh' which are quoted as 1000g and certainly feel considerably lighter than D2's and THE's

Thanks for the replies so far,

My problem is that nowhere near me stocks TLD's or THE's.

That is one of the reasons I bought a mx helmet in the first place, guess I will have to read any online shops returns policy if it doesn't fit.

I've got a D2 and it fits me nicely.  It does get hot, but they any full face will do.  The one thing with the D2 is that not all goggles work with it due to its relatively small opening.  My Fox mains just fit but anything larger won't.

I'm near Hull, a town called Beverley, I would probably have to go to Leeds or Sheffield to find a shop with any TLD's or THE's.

I've just looked at the 661 evo's on CRC, they look good and are a lot cheaper than the other two!

Are they as well ventilated?

Carbon evo for a ton seems cheap!

Hello,

I was in the same boat as the OP at the beginning of the summer. I have a larger head than most, which means finding a helmet that fits can be a problem.
Tried on most if not all makes, with only two fitting properly and comfortably. The first was the Gyro Remedy, but it was heavy and HUGE. I looked like a mushroom head. The other was the XL-XXL TLD D2. Both the Remedy and D2 fit the same.
I dug deep and emptied the piggy bank when I found  D2 carbon on sale (ebay store) that was the same price as buying the regular D2.
As everyone says, all full faces get hot, but I really don't notice it.
My XL-XXL Carbon D2 weighs in at 883 grams.

Well there u have it then, the composite 661 evo is in fact lighter than the TLD and THE carbon ones, i was pretty sure of that before but just went and reweighed mine and it weighs in at 1010g with mud on it lol.
Its very well ventillated even with goggles it doesnt get too hot, i infact sweat more with my fox transition helmet than i do with the 661evo kitted up with my spy goggles.
I would love to find out how light the evo carbon one is  Shocked
