I have just been told by Madison that my cracked Meta 5 will be replaced with a 2010 frame (with a new swingarm too). That's the good news.

Bad news is that the best estimate is for it to arrive end-October, based on the fact that the shops won't be getting their bikes until early-November. That'll be an 11 week wait!

I loved the bike when it worked. I just wish I'd got an Orange 5 instead.

Its good that you are getting the updated version, should prevent the issues happening again.

Long wait sucks but once you are hammering down the trails again it will become a distant memory.

Slight update:

My shop has come up trumps and is lending me a cheap hardtail while I wait. At least I'll get out there again.

True. I'll still be badgering Madison until it gets here though. I think their performance during this saga has been pretty poor. Luckily for them our moaning has been on this little owners club forum.

Amen, brother. Biggest mistake I ever made. I'm now longer without my £1600 bike than with it. Just shit.

What you still hanging round here for then?
Is there not an Orange fanclub website thingy somewhere you can join? Wink

fanatic278 can I ask which retailer you purchased your bike from?
Will the swingarm be carbon?

I’m waiting for a replacement frame.
Merlin have told me there confident I will be sorted by the end of the week.
I’m guessing this means I’m be getting a 2009 replacement and not 2010.
I think they have some old frames in stock.

It wasn't Merlin. I shall save naming the shop in case it goes tits up from here. Once it is all sorted to my satisfaction then I'll sing their praises!

I don't know about the swingarm material. I hope it is carbon, but doubt it - I'm not that lucky. I just want to make sure I don't get that horrible red frame!

Haha! I was torn between a Five and a Meta, in the end value for money and a better build for the money won, and in spite of the reports of frames cracking, I got a Meta.

Fives are known to crack too, and I think the tinterwebz makes things seem worse than they are.

Not so much as an update, more of a confirmation.

Madison have had a reply from Commencal to confirm the first shipment of frames will arrive w/c 26th October  Sad

I guess it'll be the first week of November before we get them delivered to us (that's me saying that - not anything official). So anyone with a little crack in their frame will be best advised to wait a while before sending it back.

Are the troubles predominantly related to '09 bikes or do they go back further? I was looking over an '09 Meta 5 & there's substantially less weld between the top & seat tubes than on my '08 VIP frame.

It is just an '09 issue I think.

I had an email today from Merlin to say my replacement frame will be with Madison in the next day or so. Grin
They hoped to have it by the end of the week. I guess I’m getting a 2009 frame. Huh? Sad
I’ll keep you all posted.
I’m into my 4th week by the way. Sad
