Wow, could anyone explain how that happened? Did crack spread from tube to weld or the other way? It looks like also weld on the other side is cracked, but the tube is fine, so the weld probably cracked first.

Looking at that close up there are paint jaggies on the tube - would not have expected that.  Looks like it's flaked off Huh?

The crack would have started on the parent metal rather than the weld - in most cases.

Due to the amount of cracked frames near welds it looks to me as if Commencal have an issue with the welding process during manufacture of the frames.Don't expect a replacement frame in a hurry,it will be 5 weeks next week I have been waiting for a replacement Meta 6 frame.

If you see cracked frame it is high probability that it will be near weld, almost all cracked frames crack near weld.

I have an almost identical crack on my Meta 55.  I contacted Merlin and they told me to take it down to them for 'assessment', on first glance the mechanic said it looked like a crack and they would send it back to Madison so as they could sort me out a 'new front end'.

I contacted them last week to check the progress of the repairs to frame and knackered brakes, to informed the frame appears to be 'OK' and Madison having looked at a photograph Merlin had sent them deemed it fine for me to continue riding, though I 'should keep an eye on it'.

I am a little bewildered to say the least and have further questions to ask them tomorrow having had my phone call to Merlin cut short.

Surely if its a crack you are entitled to a new frame even if it is OK to keep riding, sounds like a get out here.

My thoughts exactly, but when is a crack not a crack?  Answers on a postcard please (keep them clean though!)

Bellerophon, do you have any pictures? Frame on the upper picture is cracked for sure and should be swapped.

No photos yet, but will post when I get it back.  The 'crack' is practically identical to the one shown above.
