Dilemma time here folks...

After the Fort Bill DH Enduro I've gotten the racing bug and realised that as good as my Supreme is, I will need a proper DH bike if I'm going to have a proper crack at racing.

SO now we come to the dilemma.... do I swallow the bullet and get one of these:

which Steve B and I have had a chat about recently and will set me back £5k

Or do I go for one of these:

and save £2.1k?

Or do I go for one of these:

and save £1.7k?

Of course there is always the 2010 Supreme DH:

but I'm a little disappointed by the spec... Fox Van R and Boxxer Races? I wouldn't have expected that from Commencal on the flagship bike..

I'd LOVE to get the commie wcs, and I know how well it rides although there are a serious lack of reviews online, but the 2Stage has had some fantastic reviews and looks to be a properly fast bike. As for the KTM, the lesser specced model the Tribute has been getting rave reviews lately.

I don't want a Trek, Kona, Spesh or Lapierre though.

Budget wise, I'm fairly flexible as it'll be done on finance but obviously the better the deal I can get, the more spares I can get!

That's the choice folks... over to you for some advice!

The WC Commencal DH.. mate.. buy once not twice!!! you will only end up spending as much on upgrades to get you to the first choice, over the first year anyway  Grin

oh and the Commencal WC DH.. is pretty as... of course this should'nt matter ..... (oh be it so does!!!)

Get teh WC supreme. but how about asking him for frame and fork combo or does it come as a full bike only?

Apparently the geo is different to the normal supreme frame.

Looking at the two pics of the bikes, looks like the WC has a longer rear end. (Look at the gear cable mount).

They are all very different riding bikes. So forget the price at first and decided on which one you actually want to ride.
Then ask youself how good a DH racer you are. As you will crash alot and a WC fork scratches and breaks as easily as a Race but costs a LOT more to replace.

Do you really need that level of kit. Plus you can always buy replacement internals when they wear out, break etc.

Id go for the cheapest spec. As you break/blow stuff up, you can buy 2nd hand working stuff off the people who spent full wedge on top end stuff then never used it. (I once picked up perfectly working dorados for £375 ro replace some smashed super ts!)

Also far better to be waiting in the uplift queue with the lower spec bike and be faster. Than to be the all the gear no idea who people are secretly smirking at.

oh and you can spend the extra cash on a van with a portaloo in. Plus cover all you race entries and accomodation etc. (Theres at least enough cash saved for 4trips to alps)

Actually, i do believe that this is true. There's a guy who i ride with sometimes that has a top of the range santa cruz. he'd ridden the track that we were on loads, it was my first try. I was about 15s quicker than him down the track (It was only a 1:30 track too). That guy is one of the slowest guys about, but he had all the gear. We were all quietly smirking at the fact that he has a race proven bike, and he's real slow, where everyone else had similar cost, or cheaper bikes, and we were toasting him.

These would be my options excluding lapierre:

Commencal Supreme (2010 looses more weight, and better paint qulity)
Intense M6
Intense 951 (Although i was speaking to someone who said all the ratios and geo are all wrong)
Turner DHR (the new DW-Link one)
Giant Glory (New one)
Morewood Izimu
Evi Revolt
Santa Cruz V-10
Yeti 303/303-R (and definitely the new prototype one, when its out)
Corsair Crown (cool linkage movements etc)
Nicoli Ion S

Or of course you could buy a frame and build it up yourself and then you have the ultimate build.

I love the most of the components (exclusing Shimano, simply cause i just dont like them) on the WC, but like the colour of the 2010 version better!
What is the second bike, its not showing?
I dont like KTM!
What about an MSC?

Out of those four (or three i can see) i would choose the 2010 supreme, there is also the problem that was discussed about the WC model (original topic), if you dont ride fast and good in general, you look like a twat!

This also shows that its more about the riders skill and speed etc,, rather than the bike they ride

The KTM is supposed to be awesome....

What about a K-9 DH01? they set the bugger up for you and basically give you a full mechanical support team anytime you need a tweek

i'm loving the 2010 supreme its glorious as for the van-r and race boxxers..... Hello no one listened to my rant about Marzocchi.. looks like commencal stepped up to the plate the race boxxers will be great yes i know they aint WC but really you'll cry if you bust em lol  Grin and the VAN-R think of it as a start up and you can upgrade depending

As said the money you'll be savin over the supreme WC will pay for alot of race entries and spares (remember the spares u'll need to race...i bust a mech hanger on the first practise of a race and was out all weekend FFS)

However much everyone loves the WC unless you are at the top of your game its not worth it, i tend to base bikes on looks/looks with spec first and ride second (i know that is not the best way to do it) and from that id choose the 2010 supreme

[q]Intense 951 (Although i was speaking to someone who said all the ratios and geo are all wrong)[/q]

love the way you've always been speaking to some random - who invariably will be connected to th very top end of DH racing - that shares these nuggets of wisdom with you, and then we get t read them on here.

The Intense looks the absolute nuts, as does the Evil Revolt, mate had his down at Innerleithen for it's first outing. Seemed well impressed and looks good in that matte black finish.  His two othr mates were on Supreme DH VIP's and they were raving about them.  I tried keeping up on my 666 but to no avail!

Really wish it was me locked in this dilemma right now RAFChris...

Why don't you like the new Saint kit Dom?

And as for KTM... why don't you like them?! They've probably got the biggest company expertise when it comes to two wheels off road, albeit engine powered, but that just means years of R&D trickle down to the bikes.

The second pic was of the 2Stage elite 9.

As for looking like i've got all the gear and no idea... as I said before in the other thread, I don't really care... if I can afford a brilliant bike and then learn to do it justice then that's fine by me.

They are all very different riding bikes. So forget the price at first and decided on which one you actually want to ride.

Good advice there Doml,

As to how good a racer I am, I'm pretty much a novice hence not being sure which bike to go for. Granted the better kit will cost more to replace if I break it, but I would also rather spend a bit more in initial outlay than have to pay quite a bit more in upgrades.

Do you have any knowledge about the different riding styles of the bikes? If you do that'd be fantastic to hear your views!

The KTM is supposed to be awesome....

I hadn't thought about the K-9 mate... will have to have a closer look at it!

As for the van r, yes I know what you're saying about marzocchi, but I would have expected at least a DHX 4 on their flagship bike to be honest, and boxxer teams would have been good... maybe that's the flaw in not releasing a Team model?

As for the money saved, very fair point well presented... it'll basically pay for a season of racing which is something I was considering in my initial post.

I'm going to have to have a good long look at all the bikes I think before I make my decision... it's going to be fun trying to choose though lol!

I just generally dont like Shimano components, i dont mind the derraileurs, and some of the cranks look cool, but i would rather have RF cranks or sram gearing, i hate the shifters and brakes, therefore would go with sram and hope/avid.

As for KTM, i dont know they just dont LOOK like exciting bikes, and as i said before i base a lot on looks, in my opinion, what is the point in getting a bike that you dont like the look of and is horrible, however good it rides, you will never like it, after all its the look of the bike that you stare at, not the ride  Wink

If you fly the planes then get your wedge out and get the WC. If you clean sick out of the planes then get the 2010 supreme 2010.

Are you selling the mini? If so let me know
