Okay so if we are doing this we should do it properly, and we don't have long to sort things out really
However by starting this off I am definately NOT volunteering to organise things!! (Im busy at weddings and stuff August b/h, and start new job very soon so don't have the time at the mo - sorry Undecided

First off lets gauge interest and availability so if you intend to come reply below stating -

1 - Bike you will be bringing (this will help those of us that do sort a route out to see what sort of terrain we need to consider)

2 - Your ability and/or how far you would feel capable of riding (remember this is open country not a trail centre and the peak district is just that - peaks - so going is either up or down and either rocky or boggy)

3 - Where abouts you will be travelling from, or what time you can arrive and have to leave, if staying overnight say so to enable likeminded people to maybe look into booking the same campsite, B&B etc

4 - If your local and know the area, would you be willing to help organise and plan routes, advise people on accomodation etc?

5 - Anything else you can think of that might aid planning

I would then suggest we get a small group of us locals together (maybe a few weekends before at Woodbine Cafe / Ladybower Arms or somewhere) to sort a route, or maybe a couple of routes

Im also thinking if people are travelling down on Saturday and staying over the Saturday night then we could maybe have a warm-up ride on the saturday afternoon / evening, maybe at Wharnecliffe? - Caters for the downhillers in a big way but XC Monkeys will be happy too - what do you think?

Any objections to a group of non commie mates tagging along?

Commies or not All welcome, but they have to stay 10 paces behind the slowest commie rider that is the law and should be adhered to at all times.

1 - Bike you will be bringing -

Commencal Combi Disc 2008 with upgrade shocks

2 - Your ability and/or how far you would feel capable of riding -

Not too unfit for an old bird!  Been seriously cycling for past two years.  Experience on red routes, but do get off at tricky stuff - need guidance here please - keen to learn skills!!  Done one "real" cross country route in Trossachs recently.  Capable of keeping going, as long as I get Earl Grey tea and cakes at some point.  Please be patient on hills, cuz I'm not the quickest of girls on ascents.

3 - Where abouts you will be travelling from, or what time you can arrive and have to leave -

Tarleton, Lancashire so can set off early and get to Peaks.  Takes approx 1.30 hrs from there

5 - Anything else you can think of that might aid planning

I would then suggest we get a small group of us locals together (maybe a few weekends before at Woodbine Cafe / Ladybower Arms or somewhere) to sort a route, or maybe a couple of routes -

Sorry, but I'm coming from Dumfries initially, but would have loved to have come if lived nearer!

Im also thinking if people are travelling down on Saturday and staying over the Saturday night then we could maybe have a warm-up ride on the saturday afternoon / evening, maybe at Wharnecliffe?

How far is that from Tarleton?  Maybe could come, but would have to see.

If you've been out in the peak today then I'm speechless with envy.
I bought last months MBR and am too tight to fork out for 2 in a row so don't know the MBR route.  I'll bring some maps this weekend with stuff marked on. You can add in BT's thoughts and we can go from there.

Good, good.

I hope it's all worth the journey!  I was told that the route is a bit of a "slog".  Is that how you would phrase it??  Tongue

Lets hope for nice weather tho'.  I'm not a fair weather cyclist, but I would prefer it to at least be dry on the day!  We are scheduled for rain in Dumfries up to the weekend and beyond.  Sad

Just seen the thread. Pass permitting could be well up for this.

Bike:  knackered old cannondale hardtail nag

Ability:  find it easier downhill than up

Location:  Leeds

Local knowledge:  limited.  Done a bit of peaks riding but not loads
