Are they really offereing an uplift? Cheeky beggers, it isn't exactly an impossible ride on a bouncy bike!

Anyway, I have been on an Atherton course and know the guys who run the skills courses at Llandegla. Both come highly recommended. Quote a big step up in terms of organisation compared to working out of a carpark and back of van...here you get a classroom with video feedback!

Hope that helps

I have done the basic core skills course and got a lot from it,but I would say it is for the less experienced ,the pump track is opening in 2/3 weeks so BOB told me and they are doing 2 hour courses on that I am having ago just to improve my speed over jumps really, rolling them fast rather than jumping.

Iain. Picked up 2 leaflets on Saturday. "Jumps and Drops" and "Jumping Sessions". I would say thet the jumping sessions one is for me. it says " No matter if youre not quite off the ground yet or can get some air and just want to improve your skills and confidence we can help you out" It's for both Introductory or improvers.

Jumps and Drops says "are you happy riding our red trail or a similar level.

the downward pointing trails are techy one long one and 3 or 4 short runs, they have real good jumps over the bridge at JJ,s jumps which you can just keep doing as the trail backs up on its self. But as normal what goes down must come up .You are best getting a map from the bike shop then you can easily cut back on the fire roads to redo the blacks,it is well worth coming down, when you thinking of it.In a couple of weeks the pump tracks are meant to be open but not sure if they are for general use you would have to phone to check. We could meet up for your first run if you like but I am no DH speed monster.
There are around 7 table tops one fairly long so if you are a good jumper you will like them. The second half of the course is mainly single track but you have to do that to get back, there is a run over the moors which has  a single track dh for around half to 3/4 mile long which is way to fast for me also slightly rocky so I have had a few pinch flats doining it.Then you have a road ride half a mile then over old sleepers back to complete the trail.

yeah Bong, second what Fly says, once the new stuff is open you will be jumping around down there like a flea on acid!

The pump track and new jumps look really good, and there are already plenty of jumps anyway, its not d/h as such and not scottish red or black grade by any stretch but its one of those trails that if ridden fast you can be airborne just about anywhere (oh and you will like the girls in the cafe! Wink)
You could also depending on taking the scenic route to drive there do Hamsterley on way down or back (- its just off A1 around Durham area) and a slightly longer detour could take you past Wharnecliffe for Peaty's training ground
 - but that would put some miles on the bongmobile

Contrary to what these guys are saying bong, i don't think it's worth a 4 hour drive to get to.

There's only one decent sized tabletop, which is about 12-15ftish then the rest of the jumps there are quite small.

As for the new stuff, it looks really small tbh, as in the tables are about 2-3 foot high with a 4-6 foot top to them, but since they're not open yet, and i haven't ridden them, then it's hard to tell how good it'll be.

All the downwards pointing stuff at llandegla is quite short, and then there's the annoying thing of there's always something like a 5-10 min climb after, some are quite punishing too.

but, it's worth trying once though. then you can make your mind up.

They're on the trails. Mainly the black (Welsh black is equiv to the mid difficulty of the red in scotland) jump sections.

But i believe that when the athertons hold a training day, its on their private track at 'degla.

iain,
My original question about what level the courses are still remains. when she asked me if id been to Llandegla before & what ive ridden there she sounded sightly disappointed when i said the blacks  Huh? i would be happy to pay the fee if the course is worth it, but on the other hand if its really basic..... The core skills is basic it shows you how to brake ,take berms ,bunny hop, manual[still cant do that] and how to do very smal jumps ie roll off or pop front wheel of 6/12" drops worth it if you are my skill level but if you can do all the above you should do a higher rated course.Hope that helps.
